|
|
Hi,
Hope somebody can help me on this one.
I have previously successfully installed TomTom3 onto my PDA but unfortunately I needed to hard reset it, therefore forcing me to install TomTom3 again.
I'm having the problem that it will now not install at all. I have connected the PDA to my computer with ActiveSync and put the CD in the drive. It autoruns and goes through the steps. After I select install TomTom I get the following screen:
with the document image flapping between the folders continuously.
Anybody can help me on how to resolve this rather annoying problem?
Many thanks in advance.

Anybody able to help please?
I had a similar problem some months ago and member Steve999 emailed me some .cab files across that enabled me to re-install TomTom3. Unfortunately I don't have this email anymore and the user hasn't posted since August 2005.
Many thanks in advance.

Mark, If you don't have the installation disks and the correct activation codes then I am afraid you need to purchase a true copy of the software - if this isn't a Pirate copy why do you need CAB files?
Please don't ask for this sort of data on here as you will not get assistance.
Also to others please do not go sending files to people requesting hacks to pirate software - Mike |

If you're using WinXP, Start | Run and type in "%temp%" without the quotes.
Select all the files that appear in the resulting window and delete them.
Then re-run setup. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I have the original software (can supply you the serial number if needed). I did install it succesfully first time, then the second time (after a hard reboot of the PDA) it didn't work without the kind assistance of a member, only for my PDA to fail again. I'm back at square one now where I cannot re-install a product I purchased with my hard earned cash.

Many thanks for that suggestion but it unfortunately did not work.
In the meantime I have put in a support ticket on the TomTom website (giving them my genuine serial number ) in the hope that they can assist me. Once they have informed me of a solution I will be more than happy to update this forum in case other members encounter the same problem.
Now, does this sound like somebody who does not have a legal copy of TomTom 3?

Mark, that's a fair point, it was the file sharing bit I thought wrong, but no it all appears in order, sorry.
Its a shame it won't load, I have seen this with TT5 and what Darren sugests sorts this problem, is your Active Sync working correctly? Mike |

The .cab files can be obtained from your install CD. _________________ Darren Griffin |

ActiveSync appears to be working. I can transfer files to- and from the PDA and it is synchronising my calendar information with Outlook. I suppose me having Limewire and a bittorent client on my desktop in the picture I posted above might caused the suspicion of me having a downloaded copy
I explored the CD and can't find any files with a .cab extension.
I did a search on ?*.cab and there are supposed to be .cab files in:
gps.ppc3_arm
gps.ppc3_mips
gps.ppc3_sh3
and quite a view in the voice and map folders. The above mentioned folders are zipped and after unzipping them none of the files have the extension .cab
Would appreciate any further information.
Many thanks

Have you tried disabling ZoneAlarm whilst you launch the install?
Failing that, it's the .cab files in the gps.ppc3_arm folder that you need _________________ Darren Griffin |

Sorry for the lack of replies, but I have been in touch (as explained earlier) with TomTom support and this is the correspondence going backwards and forwards:

I succesfully installed Tom Tom 3 on my PDA but unfortunately I needed to hard reset it therefore forcing me to re-install Tom Tom. Setup will not let me do it. I follow all the steps until the setup screen shows with the moving icon of a file 'flapping' between two folders. Nothing seems to happen despite it being in that state for about an hour.
Please advise how to re-install

Not too sure what information you require, but here it goes:
PDA: HP iPAQ h1930 (HBJ9P-23YX8-PHYGV-B8KMT-237GW)
TomTom3 Navigator for Pocket PC GB- Serial -- deleted --
Regards
Response 30/01/2006 02.43 PM
Dear Mr -- deleted --,
Your TomTom Product Code can be found on one of these places:
on the 'productcode card' in your TomTom box;
in your CD jewel case, behind your CD;
in your CD box, behind CD 2;
For a visual representation of where you can find the product code label for various TomTom products click here.
http://www.ttcode.com/inc/boxshot.php
This product code consists of 3 groups of 5 characters and digits
The Device Code consists of 2 groups of 5 letters & numbers. It is found on your PDA. When you start navigator it should tell you it needs activating. At this point it should give you your Device Code.
Without these two codes we cannot supply you with a new activation code.
With best regards,
The TomTom Customer Support Team

Hi again,
TomTom (as found on jewelcase): -- deleted --
Pocket PC (as found on back of PC): 00023-517-065-006
Regards
Response 31/01/2006 08.17 AM
Dear Mr -- deleted --,
To find your device code, start up Navigator.
When it starts it should tell you you need to first activate it.
At this point you will be given your Device Code by the Tomtom software.
The number on the back of your PDA is not relevant to Tomtom.
With best regards,
The TomTom Customer Support Team

I'm having real trouble here. This is what happens:
1. I insert the CD in the drive
2. The first menu I come across asks me to choose the language
3. I select English
4. The next menu shows the license agreement
5. I click the "I Agree" check box
6. I then get to the "Setup Main menu"
7. I select the "Install TomTom Navigator" radio button
8. I then get to an information screen advising me that the following items will be installed:
- TomTom Navigator in English
- English voice prompts
- TomTom wizard
- TomTom GPS
The disc then spins and I get to the screen that I have attached and nothing happens.
AT NO STAGE IS THE DEVICE CODE SHOWN
Looking forward to your help.

Dear Mr -- deleted --,
Please can you tell us from whom you bought this product?
If you get no further than the screen shot attached then you have not successfully installed Navigator 3.
What you show is an installation wizard and if it stops mid-installation the program is not installed.
Please check that the CD is not scratched or damaged. (Give it a gentle wipe with a soft, dry cloth to remove any dust.
Please make sure all other programs are closed when running the installer.
Try, if possible, to run the installation on another computer.
Let us know how you get on.
With best regards,
The TomTom Customer Support Team

Hi,
I purchased my PDA and TomTom3 on Ebay through a trader called "ABCMobiles"
http://feedback.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback&userid=abc_mobiles&iid=8255766234&frm=1742
It used to work and I succesfully installed it before. Because I had to hard reset the PDA I am trying to re-install without avail. I tried both the supplied disks (the TomTom as well as the update disk) and both seem to be working. I don't have access to another computer. I even copied to disk to my hard drive and tried to install from there without avail.
Please assist further.
Many thanks |
It seems that TomTom support does not have a solution to this problem either
The frustrating bit is that this happened some months ago and another member emailed me one or two .cab files that got it working. I unzipped the gps.ppc3_arm folder and transferred the files to the PDA but it still does not work.
Somebody surely has had the same problem and is able to advise me how to get this working?
I fully understand that TomTom tries to protect themselves from the illigal distribution of their software but this is getting a bit ridiculous

You don't 'unzip' the .cab files, you copy them to your PDA and then using the PDA's file explorer browse to them and then double tap them to install. _________________ Darren Griffin |

That solved that problem!!!!!
Transferred the above mentioned zip file to the PDA and executed it. Installation worked perfect after that.
Thanks Darren - may I suggest you apply for a job at the TomTom Support Team?
Have advised them how to resolve the problem in the hope that they can advise some other poor soul who has the same problem in the future.
Many thanks again for your help!

Now that you have it working for Gawds sake buy Sprite Backup Premier. After doing a full backup of your entire PDA you will than be able to do a full restore even after a hard reset. When I say a full restore I mean just that. Even your Icons and Bluetooth settings go back perfectly. It only costs a few quid too. _________________ Tomtom Go 720.
