I have a BC-307 and I am some perfectly happy. It has the new firmware SIRF 2.31 that gives the value of the geoid above the ellipsoid WGS84, to see the example of the $GPGGA sentence:

$GPGGA,095101.674,4230.4785,N,00321.7083,E,1,07,1.1,167.4,M,49.9,M,0.0,0000*7A

in this example the value of the geoid is 49.9M.

It is compatible DGPS SBAS WAAS/EGNOS.

Maxime - as a matter of interest, do you know the precise SiRF firmware version?

My 2.31 Haicom HI-303MMF is version 231.000.000ES - which I suspect may be an "Engineering Sample" firmware. It works perfectly OK - am just wondering if SiRF have moved on beyond that, or whether that's a firmware that many vendors are now shipping.

It is the same FW that I have on my BC307, I use SIRFDemo 3.40 to make tests on PC.

To my knowledge it makes the second GPS that has this FW.

I am pretty new to GPS and I saw this discussion about the BC-307.

I just purchased this unit and I am waiting for my Deluo Routis 2004 software.

You guys have been talking about firmware.

How do I find out what firmware I have ?
Do I need the latest firmware?

Also, I was wondering about WAAS and DGPS.

Does it depend on the software to utilize DGPS for example? I read that DGPS is more accurate but with Delorme StreetAtlas and MS Streets & Trips I never knew if DGPS was in use or not?

I need to learn a lot Smile ......

WAAS/SBAS/DGPS is when available more acurate than the standard fix. Under most circumstances you will not realise that it is in use. Other than setting the correct option there is nothing else to do and corrected fixes will be used automatically irrespective of what software you are using.

In fact the only mapping application I know of that shows the DGPS status is OziExplorer CE.

:D Its been easy to use, and generally works great. Occassionally it loses its signal but will regain it in 10-30 seconds.
In car, or close to a window i have not had to use, nor did i purchase the external antenna and found favorable results anyway.
With mapopolis it speaks through my pda, and recalculates quickly.
It was the cf model with a pcmcia adapter.
My opinion, you can't go wrong.
Aguy2no

ps found it on ebay about a year ago for about $100

Hi,
is there a typo in the review, which states that a solid light indicates position fixed and a blinking light indicates the unit is searching for a fix?
My unit works in reverse to this......Solid light means NO FIX and blinking means FIXED.

Has anyone managed to get this working on Windows Mobile 5 with TTN5 ver 5.21? I just can't get it to connect. My BT receiver works fine with it though. Sad
