Thanks for the replies. My PDA is an iPAQ 3970 btw.
RichDem - tried your suggestion, but still get the Fatal Application screen.
I'll try reinstalling the map data to see what happens, before doing a hard reset.
Frustrating. Seems that WinCE is still buggy as ever. I've had more resets and errors in my six weeks with my iPAQ that 4 years with my Palm. Oh well - the price of progress. |

I had a similar problem last week, one morning when I went to start Navigator I had a fatal application error and it just shut down. This worked for me so give it a try.
Locate the folder on your storage card where the maps are installed, in this folder you should find an blue icon with a white arrow, it should be called something like "Great_Britain.pna" click on this and TomTom should start.
Once I had done this I was then able to start Navigator normally from the start menu.
Hope this helps.

I had this with Navigator 1. Re-installs didn't work. Turned out to be corrupted map data.
Try deleting your old map and re-installing it (obviously make copies of your POIs first) before you start doing hard resets.
Hope thats of some help

Help!
After a flawless period with TTN2.02, my TomTom has died. When I start TT I get a popup that says :
-----------------
Fatal Application Error
Application TomTom Navigator.exe has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.
Program: TomTom Navigator.exe
Exception: 0xc0000005
Address : 000dd684
------------------
I've tried reinstalling TT2.02 twice - no luck
Any suggestions

Hi All
I am starting to have problems now - though I have had about 3 months without problems before this.
Basically, the battery on my pocket PC (Tosh E330) ran completely flat, and TTN2 hasn't worked the same since. I suspect there is a problem with my storage card, where maps and POI's are stored. Basically it either won't get a fix, or crashes as soon as it does. I've have tried hard and soft resets, but to no avail. It also often says "Cannot determine location of data. Please re-insall data &/or application" - then procedes to TTN2, but all my favourites have been erased.
It is worth mentioning that it also crashes when I try to access one of the POI folders (one which I created - though this is the first time I had problems with it).
The big question => does it sound like a problem with the storage card? Is it a problem with the data or the card itself (ie. is reinstalling the maps sufficient, or do I need to reformat the card? <which I wouldn't know how to do!>).
Really appreciate any help, as like many other people, this website is my only source of support due to the inadequacies of the TomTom customer services!
Thanks,
Jed
PS: I am running version |

If you have a SD card reader then you should consider moving all the data from the SD card into a temp folder on your PC, then format the SD card, and then move the data back. This approack will eliminate possible SD card fragmentation, and it may help to get TomTom to start properly again. Let us know if that worked out. _________________ Lutz

Thanks for your response.
Will try your suggestion, but how do I format the storage card?
Cheers

If you have a storage card reader on the PC, just insert the card, it will show as another drive, right click and you'll have a format option there. Depending on the OS, if you're using Win2k/XP then you may need to do properties and goto tools.
If you're trying this on a Pocket PC, download Storage Tools from SoftWinter.com. |
