I wonder what the situation is regarding the coordinates for mobile cameras in the database.
I would expect the db to hold the actual position that the van parks in (assuming this is known).
The reason I ask is that on my 30 mile journey to work I pass 4 mobile sites where the POI is anything up to 500 yards out based on the actual van parking position.
Before I submit any corrections I would like to have clarification. |

And I would hope that the database would hold where your speed is actually measured, rather than the location of the camera.
For example, it would be of little use if a mobile camera on an overbridge had the location recorded as on that road! |

How can we record anything else?
It is up to us to program our units to warn us 1400m ahead!
Not much point in warning us later than that, as mobile units have a range of 1000m |

Most of the M4 mobile cameras in the database are entered as being on the bridges above the Motorway [catching traffic in both directions].
It would be confusing to duplicate the camera location on both carriageways! |

For the benefit of clarity and to ensure we're all working to the same rules, we record the locations of 'actual' camera or safety van locations.
Were we to begin recording the 'estimated' points at which speed measurements were taken then we'd be creating a minefield. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I have submitted many mobile sites from my area (West Mercia).
The type of van used uses 3 wires set in the road which are clearly visible so that is the location I have given as the van may be 300 metres or more up the road.

Just to clarify your observations so we all understand.
If the wires are set in the road:-
How do they connect to the van?
How then can they be called 'mobile'as they should be static.
Are you confusing the wires with the very common traffic counter system - I can think of several sets locally where a mobile camera van unit does set up, but the two systems are not connected! |

1) There is a grey post on the road side near the hardstanding (which has been specially put in for the vans) to which the operative runs a cable.
2) A good point, I posted them as "mobile" since there is no Gatso type cameras to see and they may have been posted as false sites. In fact I noticed one that has been taken off in the latest database that I will need to repost.
3) Definately not. See here: http://www.speedaware.org.uk/default.asp?PAGE=EQUIPMENT
I hope that clarifies things further.
