|
|
I've always found the new post indication on the index pages a bit flakey, but noe I seem to got into a permanent situation where, when I access this forum it never shows any new posts, and when I access the Speed Cam forum, it shows the threads with new posts but when I click on the "new posts" icon on ech thread, it comes back with a message box saying "No new posts since your last visit" even though there are.
I suspect a corrupted cookie or somethig, but have never really understood the mechanism, because on other forums it seems to work, even when I access the sites from two different computers.
Any ideas on what I could try deleting to give me a clean slate? |

If you're using Windows, cookies will usually be in:
C:\Documents and Settings\(username)\Cookies - and are *.txt files.
Where (username) is what you're logged in as (eg. under Win2k/WinXP).
Just look for (username)@pocketgpsworld.txt or (username)@www.pocketgpsworld.txt and delete these files.

When you first enter the site, go to the list of forums. If you are logged on there will be an option to "View posts since last visit" above and right of the forum list. _________________ Tim |

Or... if you are logged in, on the index page for each forum (where all the topics are listed), the "page in a circle" icon on the left hand side should light up orange on topics with new posts; and if you click on the icon to the right (an little orange page with a black arrow beside it) it should take you to the first unread post in that topic.
But you do have to be logged in for these to appear. |

Sorry to drag this to the top again...
But I've just got round to searching through my cookies and there is nothing from pocketgpsworld (or any of the other forums I subscribe to either) so the new posts indication must be done another way.
Come to think of it, I can usually log in at home or at work and the forums still "know" which posts are unread, so doesn't that mean it must be stored centrally on the PGPSW servers?
Does anyone have any more info on how it works (or how to sort it out)? |

Dragging to the top again.
For the PGPSW Website people:
The PGPSWorld forums always show me all the threads with new posts when I first open the index page for that forum (as little orange flags), but as soon as I click on the first one, I ALWAYS get a "No new posts since your last visit" page, and am then directed back to the same index page with all the orange flags gone.
As I'm getting a bit obsessive about reading all the posts, this is driving me nuts!!
As I said above, it does not seem to be done with cookies at my end, but must be registered at the server somehow. None of my other forums misbehave like this, all the PGPSW ones do.
Please do something (even if its just to explain how the system should work).... |

I used to get the same problem but it was overcome by pointing IE to www.pocketgpsworld.com then select "forums"in the left hand column ..then selecting "view posts since last visit... If I tried any method other than starting with www.pocketgpsworld.com.It would not work..
