|
|
I am trying to produce my first POI for Tom Tom.
I have followed guide by Bo Peep.
I have collected Lat, Lon & name in spreadsheet and transfered info to Notepad. I have put in all the necessary commas etc.
I then saved the file to My Documents.
This is where I am having problems.
It is saved as a *txt file not a .asc file and I do not seem to have the option to save it as a .asc file.
I then start WinOV2, Make OV2, tried to open the saved file but it does not appear in My Documents as only ASCII files are listed.
I know it is there as I can find it via Windows Explorer.
Please what am I doing wrong, and how can I correct it.

Another option is as follows.
make sure the format is as follows
6.15175,46.24400,"my poi item"
if you can see the file in windows explorer. right click on the file and rename it and change the .TXT part to be .CSV
You should then be able to use make ov2 but i prefer to use POIEDIT.
In POIEDIT
Open the CSV file in poiedit as a Garmin CSV file. then simply Save As a OV2 file _________________ Wife 3 kids.... unversity fees...:-(

If you have Makeov2 and the Text file in the same Folder, just drag the Text File to Makeov2.exe and it will create a .ov2 File and a default BMP. Unless a .bmp file already exists. _________________ Richard

Thanks Paul-m
I could rename the file but could not change the txt part to anything else.
I tried POI Edit but that could not convert the txt file.
Thanks OLDBOY
I have done as you suggest and can now produce ov2 file and default BMP,
I was originally trying to use WIN OV2.
I would still like to know how to convert the txt file produced by Notepad to an ASCII text file .asc as suggested in the guide by Bo Peep. _________________ Slow Learner |

It doesn't need to have an ASC extension, it will work as is.
If you really want one just right Click the File in Explorer choose Rename and change the TXT extension to ASC. Click OK and it's done. _________________ Richard

Sorry for being thick, but I right clicked in windows explorer as you suggest. it allows me to change name, but there is no option to change the extension, unless I am missing something. _________________ Slow Learner |

In Folder Options > View, you will need to UNTICK 'Hide extensions for known file types'. This will reveal the extension, which you can then change. _________________ Richard
