It seems your computer is not finding your Tom Tom One.
Remove your Tom Tom cd from your drive first then try the following:
Restart your computer then plug your usb cable from your Tom Tom into a different socket on your computer making sure you unit is switched on. Did this find your Tom Tom?
You could also try going to Contol Panel, then to the Add Hardware icon & follow the wizard, make sure your Tom Tom One is connected with the usb cable & switched on first. _________________ TomTom Go 910 (3) v.6.522 Map Western Europe v.650 with useless TMC receiver

Another user had a problem with Win2000.
Have a look at this thread, it might throw some light on the problem. _________________ Richard

trying a different usb port, i got up a 'found new hardware wizard' box which reads; an error occured during the installation of the device.
the installation failed because a function driver was not specified for this device instance. |

I found this site which was having problems with windows 2000 & usb drivers, i know its a tablet & not a sat nav but it highlights a problem that windows 2000 seems to have.

yes i have tried that, i tend to use the same one all the time, but i have tried all three. the problem seems to be that computer does not find the tomtom even though on the task bar recognises a removable device is connected. |

Even though the task bar icon recognises the removable device, it is not finding the driver for your Tom Tom One.
Here is another page i found, if you look further down the page there is some divers for windows 2000, might be worth trying one.
