Hi - I have one of these detection devices. However, i realise that it doesnt pick up Specs, truvelo etc etc, mainly just Gatsos and Lazer.
Now i know it picks up Gatzo as it reminds me all the while with that constant Beeping but the other day on the same stretch of the A605 going from Thrapston to Peterborough i passed two YES two speed camera vans. (In a matter of 20 mins!)

Now at no time did the Lazer alert bleep. When i past the first one i thought maybe that the van had either just arrived or about to leave so the lazer had maybe been disengaged.
However after passing the 2nd one still no alert. I even turned around and went back to it and still no alarm went off on my dectector.

Just wondered whether you think this snooper s5 is faulty or does it not actually pick up speed vans like it supposedly is advertised to?

Look forward to your comments on the matter as i did feel very confident, until that happened i must add!!!! Now its more use to me on Ebay earning me cash i assume. Unless a user can lighten me on how it works?

they need to point the gun at you and hit the snooper for it to go off on a laser the chaces of that at below 150meters are very slim has the usaly point at your number plate not your windscreen , and they need a reason to point the thing at you in the first place (Even though the police have all the high tech equipment for
measuring and recording the speeds of motorists, it is down to the
officer using the equipment to choose which vehicle to target. A lot
of people believe that the police are checking every vehicle as they
go by, this is not the case. Guidelines state that an officer can only
measure the speed of a vehicle that they believe to be exceeding
the posted limit. This is often why a driver with a Laser
detector fitted may see a gun or van nearby, but will not
get a warning alarm as they drive by. The majority of the
time they are targeting the number plate of the vehicle as this is
normally vertical to the road, but any part of the vehicle could
be used.)


Where is the best place to mount LASER ALERT
SYSTEM?
Tests with Speed Enforcement teams have shown that the most
effective place for mounting a single detector is low down in the
centre of the front windscreen.Above 200 metres this has proved
to warn every time the vehicle was targeted. (tested with a
standard saloon car). If the Laser gun is targeting your number plate
at less than 200 metres it is likely that a dashboard mounted LASER
ALERT SYSTEM WILL NOT detect the signal.At 200 metres the
beam of the Laser can be as little as 200 mm.

Wouldn't I be right in saying that if you were targetted by a laser, and it triggered your sensor.... then it is too late anyway?

yes it would be too late if the laser alert went off - but it would be ideal to know that the thing actually does work and isnt faulty as at the moment, have no way of telling.
