|
|
APologies if this has been asked before but I am a complete newcomer (as will be very speedily clear!).
I have an O2 XDA Mini S (HTC Wizard) running WM5 and have bought Tomtom Navigator 5 Software and Zestern Europe maps on CD (totally legit, not eBay!). I also have a bluetooth GPS receiver which the XDA can see and works with a friend's setup.
The problem is that I cannot get as far as installing the software. When I insert the original install disk, it begins the process and then gives me an "Application error" box with options to Send Error Report or Dont Send. The same happens if I try to install maps from any of the disks that they're on.
Help please! I can't phone Global Positioning Systems until tomorrow when they reopen and would really love to get this up & unning today if at all possible. |

Paul, The version of TT on your CD will be 5,0 this is not compatable with WM2005, go to tomtom.com and download the latest version (5,21) then install this, it will put the application on to the PDA/ Phone, the maps can then be installed from CD one (UK) - select either GB Plus (full UK AND major roads of Europe, or GB which is smaller but only contains UK, don't forget to check the box for postcodes on the same screen or you won't be able to use them. Finally you will need the voices, adding onto the device, open the application CD find the ENGF voice file and copy the file to the PDA, run this file (on the PDA) this will install the Jane voice, select others as required. - Mike |

Mike,
Thanks for your prompt reply - I've made some progress but problems remain!!
I've now got the software on, from the downloaded update, but I can't get the maps on. As previously, I put CD1 in and it opens a wizard, asks me some simple questions and when I click yes on the PDA to proceed with the install, it throws up the application error as before.
The text from the error report is as follows:

try putting the map to the hard drive and then tranfer it the the storage card via a card reader as its much quicker than moving the map via activesync _________________ currently using aponia truck navigation on windows phone. Good bye IOS don't let the door hit you on the way out .

I can't begin to understand the meaning of your error message, but I noticed near the bottom a reference to English (United States). I wonder if there is any conflict installing that with Europe maps

Guys,
You're all stars, especially Alix. Copying the maps to hard drive and then to the device has got it working!
I'm now in the process of copying the other Western Europe maps to the hard drive and then will go for a drive with my GB map loaded. One thing I've noticed is that is that there is a certain scarcity (!) of detail for Northern Ireland but c'est la vie.
Now to get a larger miniSD card!!
Thanks again all,
Paul |

Paul,Glad to hear its working, one thing I omitted before was to create a folder called voices and if need be a folder called tomtom in the root of the SD card, then copy any voice files into it, you don't put anything in the tomtom folder by the way, the 5,21 installer should have created this folder though. The way I described earlier puts the files into the MyDocuments folder, the files will be data05.chk and data05.vif if you loaded the ENGF (Jane voice), just cut and paste them across, if you install any celeb voices or alternate ones from ray flanagans site these files go into the voices folder, there is another way to load TT onto WM2005 devices but I have found the method above the easiest - Mike |

ive had this exact problem also - unfortunately ive also used the same method.... ie load tomtom 5.21 onto my kjam ppc. then i loaded the maps to hd from cd1 and transferred to the sd storage card in the ppc. when i start the tomtom application i get "no maps found!" -most frustrating, i would be delighted to know what on earth i am doing wrong! |

Iangus,
Are the maps on the storage card in their folder, e.g. gb-maps? That works for me.
What I did was go through the add maps process from the TTN5 CDs and place each one into a folder, then just drag & drop the folders onto the storage card.
Best of luck,
Paul |

Iangus, try reseting the phone, find the reset hole and give it a prod with the stylus, this often cures the missing SD card, or files/ folders stored on it. Assuming you have the files on the card they won't be affected by this in any way - Mike |

Ian, the voices should be on the application CD, the posts above should detail what to do with the file, if you want Jane voice go to the voices folder, select the engf.cab file and paste it to the SD card (do not try to open it on the PC), put the SD card back into the phone then select the file in file explorer on the Phone/ PDA, this will run the file installer and create the voice files you need, the other info above about voices folder etc is up to you - Mike |
