|
|
Hi all,
I have an XDA 2i with Tom Tom 5 installed on it. After about 10-15minutes of driving somewhere following directions Tom Tom just shuts down.
I have done a few searches on here for help, the one thing that has come up is that it could be the 02 active software that TT does not like. I have two questions.
1) If i take 02 active off, will that mean i can't use the XDA as a phone?
2) Has anyone else had similar problems? There must be a few users with XDA2i's
Away from the hustle of the other thread, I hope that everyone has a good Christmas and happy new year!!
Cheers

The O2 Active software is what nearly forced me to get rid of my IIs, the phone works superbly since getting rid of it:
Hard reset the device (this will give you something extra to do over the Christmas break), sit with the re-loading / customisation screen, when it prompts for Personal or corporate select Corporate and enter the code 0506, then re-install all your applications via active sync DO NOT use a back-up data set as this will put the rubish back on to the phone (and it makes it worse - I have experiance of this) - Merry Christmas Mike |

Mike,
Thanks for a prompt reply to my request.
As you say thats a task for over Chrtistmas!
However, what does the 02 active software do?
Is there already a phone software on the XDA anyway?
I am not too familiar with the XDA at the moment, so I assume that the 02 active maybe replicating something that is already there with the XDA base OS?
Cheers

The O2 Active puts a series of short cuts onto the desk top which are predominantly for Web based content, you device will respond quicker without it, the application for the phone has nothing to do with the Active, There have been reports of other users with XDAIIi units that the device can hang dependent upon the tryp and speed of memory card used for info on this and other Phones with PPC2003SE have a dig around on this area http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewforum&f=51
My recomendation is to get rid of the O2 Active, I will never trust it ever again! - it might also be worth checking if you have the latest ROM loaded onto the phone, from the O2 web site, as this requires a hard reset to install you may as well do this at the same time. - Mike |

no I haven't.
The pda stays on, its TT that shuts down and then goes back to the today screen.
If you then try to start up TT again it thinks about it and reverts back to the today screen. It normally takes 2 or 3 attempts before starting again. |

OK, Update
I have succesfully removed O2 active. I have then reinstalled TT,
I ran a route in demo mode to find that after 18 minutes TT shut down.
I have checked as per a previous post I read, that if the memory has many other programs running it could do that. So I have no other programs working.
I have also read that if you have too many POI's enabled then that can cause problems, so I have turned those off.
How can I reformat the card? This looks like my next option!!
TIA

thats a pain, just noted that we don't have an edit button. I don't normally make a habit of double posting!
I also meant to say that the memory cars is a 66x sandisk ultra2 |

Demo mode will reset back to the start of the trip after around the time period you mentioned, so I wouldn't bother about this, try the unit on the road when convenient and it should be OK - Mike |

demo mode continued ok with NO poi for 37 minutes before I turned it off of demo mode.
I am now running with 5 POI's (4 speed cams and petrol stations) ran for again 18mins before turning off
(The demo mode is a 2.5 hour route)
But demo mode with lots of POI's as previously mentioned was 18mins.
Will now try with the cams turned off and will update later (will try not to double post) |

If you suspect it is the POI that are giving the problems use the enable/ disable function to disable the whole lot, then configure the warn when near POI to issue a warning for each camera (I have 25 set and have never had a problem but I use a different device), that way they will still show up when required, give a road test at some point to evaluate the true performance though, demo is not really proto-typical of real situations - Mike |

update:
POI = petrol stations (only) stops after 18ish mins
POI = airports (only) >25mins
POI = 4 speed cams, mob cams, traffic light cams >40mins
I assume that there must be a problem with the memory level and the petrol stations POI?
Cheers
