Just a small point all btw .... if you don't speed this DB is not much use any way :D
And on that lighter note I'd like to wish all a merry Chrimbo... lets see what comes out the other side.

whilst not haveing ago ill now spend the next few hours looking for the post that says catagorically that the database will always be free or could you please point in the right direction |
It seems a member of the gpsw team DID catagoriclly (sp) state that "it will ALWAYS remain free here!!!!!!!
Darren wrote: | The problem there is we would still have to pay eBay charges so need to set a price that covers the auction listing fee. It will always remain FREE here |
From this thread here http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=26703 how long before we see that edited
So it does 100% state it will ALWAYS be free here,so whats the take on that now then.

What are the thoughts from those who have submitted data in the past if we were to grant them free access? |
I haven't submitted (because I have a Garmin i3 and haven't worked out how to do it) but I think that is a perfectly reasonable proposition. The main bone of contention is the fact that the database has been built up from public contributions - by offering it free to those contributors you completely nullify that argument.
With regard to charging, I personally don't have a problem with paying for a product I find useful - the issue becomes how useful will it be? (ie how accurate) and how much do I have to pay? I'd certainly prefer to pay an annual membeership fee. |

Fair enough if you want to charge for the database, but please do not charge per download as it means there is an incentive to not keep up to date. Instead lets have a fixed fee, say £10-£20 a year for unlimited updates as well as the £2 per download.
Thanks.

£2 per download sounds a bit steep to me and also a bit risky. What happens if my connection goes squiffy during the download or PDA loses the data or anything like that? Before now I have had to delete a couple of the files to get them to work again. Would it be £2 per download as in each individual file? So £2 for Gatso, £2 for Mobile, etc. Even £20 a year seems a bit steep compared to poihandler offering a subscription for €12 a year.
At the end of the day i'd go for the cheapest as thats where the most other people would be also contributing the data about speed cameras. |

I am disabled and surviving (at least trying to) on benefits, I have no objection to paying, but I can only do so as and when I can manage to pay for it, therefore an anual fee is out of the question for me and would be penalising anyone else in a similar situation, I doubt if I am the only one in this sort of position. So please, spare a thought for those less fortunate who cannot rather than will not be able to pay. _________________ It wasn`t me, I wasn`t there and even if I was, it must have been someone else.
