I have been using GPS for about 3 years, but always using wired receivers. I recently purchased the excellent Holux GPSlim 236 bluetooth receiver, and have been impressed how quickly it obtains a fix. My problem is with the bluetooth connection to the PDA (iPAQ 2210). The Holux has always obtained a fix by the time I have put the PDA in it's cradle and started the navigation program (CP6 or TT5). Sometimes it registers the satellites almost immediately, but on other occasions after 2 or 3 minutes it is still showing no GPS device. At this point I usually lose patience and reconfigure - perhaps it would make the link if I waited long enough. Is there a preferred sequence in which to switch off and on so that the link is automatic and quick? (BTW I always exit the application before turning off the PDA)
I don't think it is connected with the navigation software, because the delay can happen with CoPilot or TomTom. I have paired the device properly, and GPSlim appears in my shortcuts in Bluetooth manager. Sometimes I can tap and hold on the icon and then tap connect, but it will say that it is unable to establish a connection, even though the bluetooth receiver is only inches away.
I remember in the early days of TT3 there were bluetooth connection problems with the iPAQ 2215, but I thought that a revised driver sorted them out.
Has anyone else had similar problems and found a foolproof way of switching on?
Robin

Robin, the only time I have seen this sort of behavior is if I am too quick in going for the BT connection, when you switch the GPS unit on wait for 10 seconds BEFORE the tap and hold then connect the unit needs to do some sort of self check (it is in the manual, but if you are anything like me these things seldome get a read) - Mike

Well Mike, I just tried the following

*Switch on GPS receiver, wait until it has a fix
*Switch on PDA, wait 30 seconds
* Open Connection manager, tap and hold on GPSlim icon, then tap connect.
*After a while, connection failed comes up.
*Repeat 2 or 3 times - same.
*Go to TomTom, leave on, no satellite bars appeared after 3 minutes
*Configure again (I have tried Other Bluetooth Device and Wired NMEA device, both have worked sometimes on Com 8, which TomTom site says is correct for my PDA)
*Leave switched on - suddenly satellites appear!

It's frustrating that the GPS fix is MUCH faster than my wired receiver, but the total time to get it working is anything from 30 seconds to 15 minutes
