I've installed the GPS application from the Downloads section and can get my Axim x50v to see the GPS signal now, but I still can't get TomTom to see it.

Every time i select other NMEA GPS, 4800 baud, CF_CARD it just says no GPS device.

Any ideas? Do I have to play with the built in GPS settings of WM5 now?

Everything worked OK on WM2003!

It's a GlobalSat BC-307 Compact Flash GPS Card!

Have you tried a GPS Utility to verify the card is working? e.g. Winfast Navigator?

No, but it worked fine with TT5 under WM2003, it's only WM5 i'm having problems with.

Do I need to play with the GPS settings in WM5 or just stick to the ones within TomTom?

I can also get a GPS signal fine with the GPS application in the downloads section of the site, it's just TomTom that doesn't see it!

Ah OK, in that case some experimentation with the Port Speeds may be the solution. Soft reset first, then launch TomTom. Try 9600, 38400 and 56000. You'll know when you have communication as the small black/yellow roundel at the top right of the GPS status window will begin rotating.

Indie, Make sure the other application isn't still running, it could be "hogging" the GPS port, go to start/ settings system tabselect memory then running programs, press stop all, then try re-running the TomTom and configuring the GPS - Mike

Tried all that and still can't get TomTom to see the GPS Signal!

Made sure any other GPS apps are closed before TomTom starts, tried playing with the baud rate settings in TomTom have verified it's sending NMEA data out but still no luck!

The light on the GPS Reciever flashes all the time to say its got a signal even if TomTom isn't running, does anyone know just how much WM5 has changed it's GPS implementation?

Just one thought.

My TomTom (5.21) ALWAYS says "No GPS device!" on the opening screen. However, when I set a route, off it goes, subject there being a fix - and if there is not, it then says it is waiting for one.

I don't know if you are, understandably, taking literally the rather misleading words quoted above; if so, try putting in a route.

That's a good point, we have asked TomTom to change this misleading message as in many cases what it means is 'No GPS Signal' rather than not being able to communicate with the GPS receiver itself Sad

Confused Hi guys.
I have been following this post with interest, as I have exactly the same problem.

I have just upgraded to WM5 (on a Dell Axim x51v) and CANNOT get Tomtom to recognise a wired serial GPS device (Com1) or a CF card GPS (Com 4).

I can get the WM5 device to see both GPS devices using GPSINFO, but Tomtom5 will NOT see either device.

I have tried every conceivable combination (including disabling) of the GPS manager (start - settings - GPS) but nothing works.

If I yank out the CF GPS and re-insert it whilst tomtom is running, the gps data marker spims for a few seconds, then stops.

Interestingly, I have noticed that on PPC2002 & WM2003, whilst the CF is inserted, and tomtom is not runnning, the CF GPS light is NOT on.
However, on WM5, when NO program is running, the CF GPS light is flashing - suggesting that WM5 has the COM port open.

How can I tell WM5 to stop using the COM port until I want it??

hope someone can help, coz I don't want to have to use my old PPC just for navigation!

best regards....Seasons greetings and all that........ RSVP

Cheers!
if this helps anyone i've just set up a A201 and set the ports up like this
WM5 Programs port = none
GPS port = None
Baud Rate = 4800

Manage GPS auto... = ticked

Then in TT5 i selected
Other NMEA GPS
Baud Rate = 4800
GPS is connected to GPS_HWCOM

And that gives me a GPS fix pretty quickly Exclamation
good luck

I've a T-Mobile-MDA-pro (aka HTC Universal)
with a TomTom wireless GPS MkII
and been running TomTom's Navigator V 5.000.
To solve the problem that TTN5 cannot see my GPS-reciever
i visited TomTom's Hompage (http://www.tomtom.nl) and found
some hints on the support-page in the online-help chapter 9
"How to manually configure TomTom NAVIGATOR 5 for Bluetooth GPS receivers."
At point 25 and further i think the solution is given:

25. If the black/yellow icon is not spinning, tap again "Configure".
26. This time select "Other Cable NMEA GPS" (even though you are using a Bluetooth GPS receiver)
27. Select the baud rate of your GPS.
If you do not know the correct baud rate select 4800
28. Select again the outbound Bluetooth port of your PDA.
Tap and hold the selection 'Bluetooth Serial Port…' to see the complete name.
29. The black/yellow icon in the right top corner should now be spinning, indicating that the Pocket PC communicates with the GPS receiver.

My personally way:
First i made visible the GPS-access by turning off the hide-value in
the registry "HKey_Local_Machine/ContolPanel/GPS Setting/"
from true to false (1 to 0)
[With the Pogramm "Resco FileExplorer2005/RescoRegistry"]
Now, on my MDA, in the menu "Preferences/System" i have the Buttom "GPS"
and can define the GPS-Communication-Settings:
Hardware COM0:
Software COM4:
Hardware-Reset completed the changes.
Then i turned on BT on my MDA, the GPS-Reciever
and tested the connection with the Programm
"TomTomGPS v3": ok.
Next steps: Closing "TomTomGPS" and
starting "TomTom Navigator v 5.000"
In the menu
"Preferences/GPS-Stat./Conf./OtherCable-NMEA-GPS/"
i defined the GPS-Baudrate to 4800 and
selected the COM-Port, as previsiously defined (COM4:).

WOU!!! Thank heaven!!! All things are working fine!!!
My MDApro and TTN5 with the MRoE-Map is a
superb combination for Navigation in the European Area!

I hope, many other people will have success too.
