I also think that Mike B (and the PGW team) should now come clean with all the questions that have been asked.

Why is it that when there is a really interesting debate, someone wants to kill it off?
Please let it run its course it will die when everyone has had their say. _________________ Regards

I think we all just need to calm down a little bit. Many of you are upset and thats understanderble.
What we need right now is a bit of an explanation from the pocketGps team. Without their input, the posts in this thread will just carry on repeating themselves. |

And that kind of tit for tat makes it ok and fair for PGPSW to do the same?
Tim, I dont intend to sound patronising here, but don't you think that right now your time in this thread is far better spent giving some constructive input about the issues people have with "your" plans? All you seem to be doing is highlighting typo's!
Just how and when are the PGPSW team intending to at least acknowledge this ill feeling in our community? _________________ Garmin XT |

Ok, if the site needs an alternative revenue stream why target the users, instead target the suppliers.
Like many, I think this site is an invaluable source of information, I feel it is providing a free support service for TomTom, Garmin & Navman etc. Their support services are so poor that users have no alternate to use sites like this.
PocketGPS are providing a free support & marketing service for the many suppliers, target them not their users..... |

So they did a poll at the GPS Meet.
Should they not have posted a poll on the site and had input from EVERYONE who visits instead of the small percentage of members who could make it to Basingstoke ?

Hi Guys, I don't think this topic should be locked and brushed under the carpet ! I think the members of this site are entitled to "voice" their opinions. The more members who comment (either for or against) will give the PGPSW team an idea of the strength of feeling over this suggestion (if it is a suggestion and not already a reality). Locking a topic somehow feels akin to "Censorship" to me. I realise a lot of the posts are very similar in theme but you should be able to have your say.
Now for "my" say, I don't agree with this at all, and i'm not sorry for feeling this way one little bit, I will not be paying for a download consisting of data I have supplied and tested and updated, for free. I will not pay to be a "member" of these forums, they are so good because all types of people have access to them, giving a large spread of experience.
There have been lots of phrases posted to describe whats happening here, i think my one would be "Don't bite the hand that feeds you". You would do well to remember WE provide your database, without OUR input it will be largely pointless. _________________ Apple iPhone 5, Navigon, Brodit ProClip Mount |

That's good to know Rob, I don't think £2 is really alot, to be honest it's nothing like a few have said, but it's more the way it has been (mis)handled that has got people, i.e. it has always been stated that it will always remain free, now its not.
It has been made up from the people for the people.
I have also commented as others have on Bittorrent.
You stated the dbase was on a seperate server that was expensive run.
Get rid of it and distribute through bittorrent, I could even provide space for it if it came to it as others have also offered.
The people are offering the help but it seems the venture to capitalise is overtaking the community spirit.
You also seem to be avoiding answering posts about using bittorrent and us lot helping with mirroring etc.
I know where you are comonig from when you say it takes time, I administer my own web and DNS servers with sites and forums.
But it only takes up the time I allow it to. |

Quote: | We received the following bit of feedback on POICapture from an attendee of The PocketGPSWorld.com Event held in November: "The only problem I had was not being able to find any new speed cameras on the run home 330 miles (ish) and every camera I passed was spot on which also speaks highly of the quality data the site provides – So I never got to try the new application – I am sure it will be used over the coming weeks." |
I don't believe this for a second. Obviously a hardcore follower and someone in favour of charging for the database.
I have just re-added the three Gatsos missing from the database to one of my own POI where they are staying. For the past 3 months these have been taken off the database without being checked.
Now thatg PGPSW are charging for the database, I will not be re-submitting their locations for them to be added to a "soon chargeable" database.
