Well spotted!

I love pocketGPS and I have kept coming back to read what is out and to download the database.

However, I am like electricity and always go the path of least resistance. If you add a £2 charge then I feel it would make me look elsewhere for the info.

I feel I should have some loyality towards this site but I dont see myself paying or helping to contribute if a fee was imposed.

Sorry.

I wonder why he did that - it seems odd.

It could be that Mike didn't write the article, but did post it. Nothing sinister there....

So perhaps, instead of going back on previous promises and charging for a community resource like the speed cam database, you should look instead at levying a small charge for overall site membership and using some of the proceeds to register yourself some decent forum software? I'm a moderator on a forum elsewhere on the web which uses InVision software, and the ability merge, split and move posts from one topic to another is a basic, fundamental part of the software's functionality.

We can split, move and delete, but not merge (graft).

Please could the Mods now lock this thread - I think it is now repeating itself.

I also think that Mike B (and the PGW team) should now come clean with all the questions that have been asked.

1. Why charge now? (Really, why charge now - just a Xmas kicks in!)
2. How are the cameras to be checked?
3. Cost model - how was the "£2 a go" value derived?
4. How do the PGW team expect to keep the database accurate when so many people have decided not to carry on adding to the database?
5. While Mike B maybe perfectly suited for the job - it seems a bit of closed shop. Why are you not advertising this job as well - there maybe a better candidate?

You can certainly do that Tim,
Split- the community
Move -us all to take up arms
Delete- the free database
But can you merge us all into the new one.

Here in south Buckinghamshire, the authorities seem particularly keen on forward-facing Truvelos. All of them are in the database as rear-facing Gatsos, which don't require as much warning.

Also in my area, quite of few of the database locations are inaccurate to the tune of 50m or so - not a problem for me and my local knowledge, but that's enought to catch out somebody who just passing through.

The point is that I have a list of corrections that I was going to submit, but do you know what? I don't think that I can be bothered now.

Furthermore, some of you will know that I've spent quite a bit of time tinkering about with my Garmin i3 - I've developed some utilities to help make custom voices, personalise the on-screen messages, that sort of thing.

I was going to publish these too, but guess what? I can't be bothered. My usual altruism seems to have gone AWOL.

This is indeed a sad day for PGW.

And what do you think people have been doing for ages? Why, taking the data and selling it on eBay!

I think this the point Tim, The fact it was being 'sold' was always considered dishonest, this really is a tricky situation.

Thing is....now there will be more people buying it (for less than £2.00)

Dan, i have the TTGO database supplied free of charge but i have to be honest and say it is not a patch on the PGPSW one, albeit i havent used it since the second week of it's inception.
Perhaps it has improved but this one for me is the kiddie.
Perhaps i am wrong here, but i don't feel it is a charge that people object too more the way it has been handled, maybe they had to charge for the database so as to protect their hit ratio, i can't see anybody paying £20 to access the site no matter how informative it is - there are other communities offering help to novices with TTGO's.
