May I comment on your announcement to make a £2 charge for each download of the data base?
While I accept it is an excellent service, it has been compiled from the data us users have given free of charge. I for one, would NEVER had reported the cameras that I did, if I'd known there was intent to make this a commercial product; I bet a few others are angry about this exploitation too. |

May I comment on your comment. I think you should be thoroughly ashamed. The amount of time and effort that is given freely by all of the management of this site is for your benefit and you're whinging about £2 and a few button presses. Get real. Where else can you get an up to date database of cameras for £2 a month that will now be verified. I for one will freely give my time to update the database especially as the management of this site provided the software to do so free of charge. And remember that the camera position I provide free of charge may be the one that saves you a speeding fine! _________________ Alan |

Hmm, I'm not sure that soup needs to feel ashamed (yes, I know free speech has gone out of fasion in politically correct Britain, so a merry winter holiday to all!). But I think that charges will bring all sorts of issues to the fore. What if the camera that catches you is not on the database? Will there be any recourse or warranty?
I thought this site was largely an amateur/enthusiast site. I realise people have put a lot of effort into it and that to expand, there is a need to employ a full timer, but time and effort are what enthusiast sites are about. Perhaps expansion like this is not the direction to take.
I am not sure why everything has to be charged for in the UK today. If I charged for everything I did for people, I would be accounting for every minute of the day! I think it was Napoleon described us as a nation of shopkeepers and I think I now understand what he meant!
Anyway, enough philosophising, I am not sure I would update the database more than once every 3 months for the routes I do and I think quite a lot of people will do likewise. I also think it will encourage piracy of the database by some individuals. |
