Hi there this is my first post.
As I am sure a lot of people are doing, I am considering purchasing a TomTom One for Christmas, I have one question which is currently causing me some confusion.
Reading some of the posts regarding the version numbers of the latest maps, some members are saying they have v605 were as other members are saying they have v632.
Could someone please clarify for me which are the latest maps.
Thanks in advance.

The first number 6 is the version. The last two numbers are the type of map - GB only, GB plus main roads of Europe or Europe in detail.
Well, that's what TomTom have done up to now. _________________ TTGO 700 (dead)

Thanks for the reply
So what you are saying then the v605 would be the latest version for the GB map but v632 would be the latest version number for another territory.
I see now thank you.

Not quite!
v 605 may be the latest map for the ONE or 300 which only comes with a map of GB.
The 500 comes with a map of GB plus the Major roads of the rest of Europe, all on one map. It will have a different version number say 622, but the detail for GB will be the same on both maps.
Similarly the 700 has a map of the whole of Western Europe in detail (not just major roads). The map will be a different version, say v627, but the detail shown of GB will the same as the other two maps. _________________ TTGO 700 (dead)

Not sure if this is correct.
I recently purchased the new GB Map V632 for my TT300, my friend has just bought the TTONE which includes the GB map V605.
Best regards

the number is the version of the map build or compilation. There is no logic in that number. Newer (higher) numbers do not necessarily mean better maps - there are 160 parameters that can be tweaked for map compilation, and you CAN do a lot of mistakes along the way (like lumping forests and meadows together etc).
Map cooking is pretty close to black magic. _________________ Lutz

In answer to the original question I would say that the latest version is V632 when campared with V605.
The accepted convention being that each build the number increases, normally 605 would be 6.05 and 632 would be 6.32 untill you reach a higher whole number then it is a UPGRADE rather than a UPDATE.
Based on this assumption then UPDATES should be FREE to anyone who purchased the version with the same Integer.
This update as in Lutz's analogy is probably just a little herb added to the magic mix, as to whether it taste better you know what they say "suck it an see"
But don't you think it would be a good idea if Tom Tom web site had a page showing version numbers and history? like many other software products do.
The point made regarding the ONE being newer than the 300 etc is irrelevant as the new maps for download were released after the ONE
Best regards

632 is not an update compared to 605. It's just compiled later with a different set of parameters (e.g. including major roads network in the 632 build). Western Europe contiguous map is build 606. All maps are based on the same TeleAtlas data release.
Previous builds were 562 (region map) and 571 (region plus MRE map), based on an earlier TA release.
you could consider 605/606/632 an upgrade compared to 562/566/568/571. That's probably also why TomTom is not offering free downloads. Unfortunately they also don't offer a reduced upgrade price. _________________ GO1005

Thank you for all the replies it has been very helpful.
PC World have now put the price back up to £279.99 despite their home page still saying £219.99, when you click the link it's £279.99, so will have to wait till someone else decides to sell at similar price.

Both Argos and PC World have been selling at below cost price on the TT ONE, and Tomtom are not happy about it to say the least. Also, they have been displaying these special prices without actually having stock in many cases, in which case it's a great way to get attention and people into the stores, without actually losing the money...
For us poor SatNav reatailers, this just has the effect of destroying the market, and removing any benefit in us selling the systems, holding stock, or skilling up on product knowledge, using demo systems, or comparing the products with competitive products.
The consumer wins in the short-term, but in the long-term will lose out.
For the record, we have TT ONEs in stock, and they are less than £279.99.

Just bought the TTONE which includes GB Map V605.
I checked this map against my recently purchased/downloaded GB Map Plus V632. on my TTGO300.
Using a new local housing estate for map comparison, the V632 shows the estate complete where the V605 shows it partially complete.
Draw your own conclusions as the which Version is the most recent!
Is it possible to activate my new map V632 on the TTONE?
I tried activating it on www.ttcode.com it does generate a new activation code but the TTONE rejects it as a incorrect activation code.
I have posted the question to Tom Tom support but awaiting a reply.
Best regards
