|
|
I have noticed that when I look up 'Recent Finds' the distance is shown on the right hand side of the screen but the estimate seems to be consistently understated. A recent journey of around 51 miles shows on the i3 as 34.4 miles and another journey of around 96 miles shows 73.3 miles.
I can understand some variance but this seems excessive. Have others noticed the understatement of these distances?

as others have said, i think it's as the crow flies - otherwise it would take a long time to calculate each route to each point to show a proper distance!

Just in case...
Make sure you check the distances in a definite place, and at the same time as each other - the i3 gives the distance based on where you are at the moment, so the distance will vary depending on where you are (e.g. a location will be different distances depending on whether you are at home or at work).
And if you turn the i3 on, the distances will be out until it has a sat fix and has had the time to update the last distance readings. If I turn my i3 on right now (at work) it will give me incorrect distances for everything until it gets a sat fix, then they all update.
Likewise, when driving along and looking at favourites, fuel stops, etc. in the list, the distances to them are constantly changing, every few seconds (not that I advocate watching the i3 instead of the road...). Give it time and you might find that it just needed to catch up with you! |

Thanks for all your comments. Sorry I hadn't seen that other thread, FriendlyBloke, but the title didn't help!
I suppose when you think about it the unit would need to dynamically recalculate road distances for all entries in the recently found listing and we know how long it takes to calculate a route. As the crow flies can be quickly calculated by the coordinates.
Cheers all
