Yeah, but hopefully they will be less out of date than the ones we are currently using. |

Bad news is I've found a road they've not updated.
Just off the M1 in Wakefield a roundabout has been added. As far as I know it has been there for a few years but TT is showing no roundabout in v6.32.
So some bits definately are up to date and others aren't (I assume there are more).....lets see what the next update brings. _________________ HP iPaq rz1710

I asked TT if the updated maps in the TT shop would be offered to current TT5 users at an upgrade price for their current area.
Reply from Tom Tom
"Dear Mr Atkinson,
The maps you saw on our site are accessory maps. The UK Accessory map is the exact same map as you already own. These maps are for customers who would like to have a map of a different region than they already own.
With best regards,
The TomTom Customer Support Team"
So they ain't interested in money then. |

So the map I bought is just an accessory and the same as I already have...er, no.
Interestingly enough, they have included the brand spanking new Dodworth bypass near Barnsley. How new you ask? It's open late next year! _________________ HP iPaq rz1710

That's nothing, they've partially mapped a junction that only opened here three weeks ago.

I'm very very impressed.
Oh and hello, first post! |

I've got an answer from TomTom. It seems the 12 month download time is only to download that particular map, if you want an updated version you have to pay again.
Mind you we'll see if that's true in reality. TomTom aren't known for knowing their own products very well

Dear Mr Hewitt,
The map downloads are not purchased as a suscription, therefore if ther is an upgrade of the map then you will have to purchase that.
Thank you for your mail.

So, when do we get updated maps for TTN3?
I'm guessing never as TT don't care about their loyal users. |

It has been updated to TT5. It's unreasonable to expect a company to provide updates for products which have since been updated. |

As most people here will agree, TTN5 is NOT an upgrade but rather a lesser new product. Therefore by all rights they are not the same and TT have abandoned the rest of us who do not want to pay for a downgrade. There is nothing wrong with TTN3, just the maps are hideously out of date. And yes, it is reasonable to expect updates for perfectly good software. Microsoft do it all the time. Just because XP came out, they didn't abandon 98 users. |

Whether TTN5 is better or worse than TTN3 is not really the issue here (as previous TTN3 users who have recently moved to the version of TTN5 included with TomTom One, our feeling is that on balance TTN5 is better).
As "anarchy-inc" rightly says, it is usual for owners of software (Windows, Office, Photoshop, etc. etc.) to be able to keep what they have paid for up-to-date for a reasonable fee. If TomTom decide not to provide upgraded maps for older versions of the software, then surely they should provide a cheap(ish) upgrade path so that existing users can obtain up-to-date maps.
Ever since TomTom One was released we have been tring to find out how we can upgrade our investment in European Maps to a version that will work with TomTom One. Although TomTom have twice promised us answers "within 48 hours" to our email requests they have never actually provided any details. Perhaps they don't even know themselves.
At the very least we should be entitled to expect TomTom to establish, publish and stick to clear policies on users' upgrade rights for all versions of their software.

Could agree more!, like a lot of people I tried TTN5 and reverted back to TTN3 which I personally feel is a better product. Just a pity we cant get updated maps for it |

TA won't know (or care) what version of their data tomtom are issuing only tomtom will know what specific build date they are using - they could issue this date very easily - I can't work out why they wouldn't publish it. |
I dont know if that's necessarily true. They try to do updates every 90 days or so. Its just a matter of these updates then being released. |
