Well, after reading your post regarding no further updates to v3, I'm inclined to contact NZ myself to complain about their complete lack of customer support and loyalty. I see myself buying another brand when it's time to replace the 510.
It will certainly be interesting to see whether or not Navman release a SP2 for SmartST V3 at the same time they release SP1 for SmartST V2005. If they don't, then as you said, it's a really poor show of support for their existing customers. It would certainly make me want to buy another unit, but unfortunately, overall, the Navman is still a much more solid system than the likes of TomTom, which is its closest competitor.
After having upgraded to SmartST 2005, I can say that for a 'first time' Navman user, I can see how it's certainly more user friendly in terms of entering the destination & generally navigating the menus. Also, being able to set a 'home' address is handy. However, for those of us who had already become accustomed to the workings of SmartST V3, upgrading to SmartST 2005 is a waste of £35 in my honest opinion, as it gives absolutely no additional features whatsoever - it is literally V3 but with a slightly different appearance.
Getting back to the roundabouts issue which I originally started this topic for, I sincerely hope it will be addressed in either the upcoming, or a future service pack, so Simon1, as I said before, it'll be really interesting to hear what Navman have to say when (of, 'IF') they get back to you after speaking to the NZ office about it.

Well! Just got a reply from Navman tech Support after waiting about a week to 10 days -anyway I posted it just about when this thread started. The response to me is not very helpful as, apparently the fault does not exist Anyway, here it is:-
Quote:
We are not aware of a routing problem inherent to this software or device. The version 3 software on the 510 is the same as on every on of our devices ma nufactured around this time. The mapping will make the odd mistake as in any system and what with 15% of the UK road network changing yearly there willbe some coverage issues.
However I can only suggest that you set your route to either the quickest or shortest and then choose the preference for the road. I would try setting the options to the max or min and see if that helps?
If you have any examples of these roundabouts please let us know as this is the only way we will resolve the issues with the mapping
If you need further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us, we'll be more than happy to help.
I responded and again referred to this Forum post, which I hope they will read. I have given a further detailed explanation of the 'fault' and will let you know if and when I get a response. _________________ Gee-Pee

Gee-Pee: That's really irritating that Navman keep responding to people with the "We are not aware of this problem" - enough of us have mentioned this to them (I have done about 3 times now) yet they still claim to have no knowledge.
If Navman doesn't encourage its employees to speak with each other about reported problems, or report them centrally, then we don't stand much of a chance of getting this resolved!
I hope 'Simon1's' contact with NZ proves to be a little more fruitful!

Interestingly, the fellow I spoke with said himself that he was annoyed that he had not been made aware of the problem and conceded that perhaps they should be talking to each other a bit more.

Just got a response - herewith. It's acceptable that this will be referred on. It's the seemingly bad communication in Navman that is worrying. Anyway, lets hope this one will get attended to in the future.

Thanks for the information, I was aware that it mis-informs verbally on some roundabouts however I was not aware of the thread on the website. I'm not really in a position to say what causes this or how it can be resolved so if its ok for the time being I will pass on the info to our field enginners and developers.

That's interesting, because I thought that the 320 and 550 used SmartST 2005 too, but just had different features available...
So, if they're using the same software as the icn510 and icn520, how come they don't have the same problem? Obviously there is no way that hardware can be a factor in this roundabout problem we're seeing, so what's going on?
OK - does anyone have the contact details for Navman NZ? I'd prefer to send them an email but if it has to be a letter, then so be it.
Peter Maire is founder and current President of Navman, but you may find that Steven Newman who is the CEO would be the better person to direct your correspondence to.

Okay - here's the latest:
Wed: As I was about to compose my letter to NZ, I get a call from the guy at Navman who I spoke to over a week ago. This was in response to a follow-up call I made to him on Monday morning.
He went over the emails and told me that NZ had gotten back to him and that they had no plans to make good the fault that we have all reported. I'm not sure if he said that they are working on THE new version or A new version of the software (there's a big difference here) but I get the distinct feeling that SmartST 3.0 is being left in the cold.
Then the most amazing thing happened - he said that since I have emailed them three times over the year with this problem and that no-one has even gotten back to me on the last two emails, as a way of saying sorry he is sending me a free upgrade to SmartST 2005!!! :D I was gobsmacked to say the least as I never even intimated that I was after something for nothing.
Thurs: Believe it or not, the CD arrived today, less than 24 hours after he promised it to me. I have now installed it and have a fully working software upgrade.
I'm still a little stunned to say the least. The thing now is what to do with NZ. I think it may still be worth a letter to them to bring this roundabout problem to their attention again, with a hope that they may still come up with a fix for the latest software version. At least that would help some of us. I hopnestly don't know what can be done about vers 3.0 given what I was told.
Oh - and GeePee - I thought that I had lost the extra POI's we wrote about in another thread, but after reinstalling just the ones after 'S', I now have them all displayed yet again, even thought this version of software doesn't show them anywhere as being loaded. I can only prove they are there by going to them on the map and seeing the icons. Weird.
