thats partially the reason i got it from staples. the guys there know quite a bit and there are really good at service related problems. However i doubt if anyone would be able to fix any sat nav and they will either replace it or send it away and it'll get replaced by TomTom.
not sure what peoples proplem with Argos is though. If they want to sell them at that price they can and their service is not worse than any other store. I've always had good experiences at Argos and surely the manufactures warrantee is the only thing we should rely on. However even this seems to be questionable from what i have read. This especially applies to software problems. |

Quite - their service is often much better than many internet only outfits who regularly try to shirk their legal responsibilities and are often difficult to get hold of to speak to, let alone visit.
They have the advantage of high street stores and the 16 day money back offer too (assuming it applies to the ONE), and when we're talking about a saving of over £50 against most of these "reputable" specialist suppliers I'd know where I'd spend my money every time.
No amount of specialist advice on a device which now costs just over £220 is worth an extra £50. Besides in many cases if you need good product advice or support these days impartial forums like these are a far better places to go than someone who is ultimately after a sale.
All IMO of course. |

Not got a great deal of faith in ringing support departments. always prefer someone knowledgable at the end of a phone who will return calls.I remember it was a tom tom we bought, and had on trial from halfords.
I think the guy at our place gave up after two days of trying to get through to Tom Tom support
I suppose the man in the street who doesnt use sat for his living, argos and others are okay, but you need good knowledge of what product or service you supplying if your main customers are buisness users.
We supply certain products metal products where other companies have come and gone ,because they support was shoddy, they just jumped on the bandwagon and fell off it. |

The 16-day money back rule does NOT apply to the offer of TT ONE for £223.99 (at least, not at our local Argos.) They say they will only refund the purchase price if the goods are faulty.

We should not critise the retailers for offering discounted products, us as customers have voted with our wallets as can be seen by internet sales, and the reason retailers are having to discount.
Also should we blame the retailer for a badly designed and supported product, we all know how bad TomTom's support is. The whole point of the Go range is that its a consumer product, unlike the original PDA TomTom product. If the Go range does not provide the consumer requirements then its not the retailers fault, they sell products, not design them.
Argos has no issues with refunds / replacements if there's a fault. For me low cost, value for money products with a hassle free returns policy is exactly what I want from a retailer |

Many thanks to all who have contributed to this topic. As a potential satnav buyer this thread has provided me with a comprehensive education.
I want to use a satnav in a Peugeot 307SW which has a "metalised" windscreen. A friend's TT Go300 would not latch on to sufficient satelites to get a fix in this car. Does anyone know if the TT ONE with its more sensitive integrated GPS receiver will work well without an external aerial in this car?
If a retailer were to allow me to purchase it on the basis that if a trial of the unit in this car failed the unit could be returned for refund, this would answer the uncertainty.
I am thinking of the Argos returns policy mentioned in a previous post that prevents this. |

I get a fix through the screen of my Renault, which is also athermic, with a SiRF3 device. I would expect the ONE to perform in the same manner. _________________ Tim |

I would be carefull trying the 16 day money-back guarantee - all the other TomTom units (and all the other satnav equipment) are not included in it. (The cross after the item name) |

I would say as long as the software is unopened that a refund is possible. Just don't load the SD card or CD.
HOWEVER The tomtom one will not boot without the SD card though so this may be a bit of a problem. If you have a mate with a GO then you could try his card. Although i have heard that the software is keyed to the ONE although i never had to activate it or anything so i'm not sure. I copied my card before use and so have a pristine copy just incase.
Considering the conflicting secret squirrel atitude to how and when and where the unit works you may never find out the real answer the best bet is to make it known to the supplier where and when and how you will be using it. Make it clearly known and get them to agree that if the unit does not function to your specific requirements that you will need a refund. Get them to write this on the back of the receipt to be sure. I have done this previously (on something else) and considering the hype that some members of this board push about the independant suppliers....lets see if they come up with this level of service for their price. BTW you wonlt get this at ARGOS.
BTW i get a 9 bird lock with my metal blind down and i'm sat 2 meters from the window. If it doesn't work in your car i'll eat my hat. This thing works like supermans xray vision. |

I've just bought a TomTom One from my local Argos for the ultra cheap price. I can confirm that the 16 day money back guarantee does NOT apply.
It's my first TT unit (apart from playing with TT 2.0 on an old Pocket PC some time back!) and I'm VERY impressed with it so far, and I've already loaded all the Speed Camera stuff from this site - brilliant ! :D :D
One thing - I'd like to 'hardwire' it into my car (a VW Passat) so all I have to do is plug in the unit to a wire sitting on top of my dashboard. Any tips on this ? Anyone know anywhere that sells the correct cable ? I believe all the TomTom Go units require the same charger so I must be able to get a lead/charger for hardwiring, i.e. without the 12V cigar lighter plug on the end, but one that does output the correct voltage & current.
Help much appreciated

Could someone please confirm, is the AC Adapter for the TomTom One the same as used on the Tom Tom Go products?
Thanks

Exactly the same specifications so yes. The AC adapter I used with my Go 300 works fine with the ONE. |

My TomTom 500 died a couple of months after getting it from Argos at the time of misprice for £330. They replaced it with a new one (now priced £450) without asking a single question, something for which they deserve all the credit. I fortunately have not had a single problem returning stuff to Argos or getting refunds although have to say that we live in the countryside and things may be a bit diffierent in a busy city branch. |
