According to the MyTomTomGo website TomTom have released a newer version of maps today - 29th Nov 2006 - that are V605 and are downloadable from Tom Tom Plus website. Can anyone throw any light onto this news. TT website seems a bit cagey about which version they are now selling! How on earth can one tell if this is a worthwhile investment?

Yes. Bought the new TomTom ONE yesterday, and it comes with v605 maps of GB on a 128Mb SD.
Still, there's a major road near me (A726) that opened around 8 months ago and is not on the map... |

After purchasing a new GB map I finally managed to download it, expecting it to be v605 as posted on this thread but after installing I am seeing V562 which is the same as the version that came with my Tom Tom 300.
Am I missing something here or just being stupid
I have access to the download for 12 month, does this mean if there is a update it will be available free from same download within the 12 month period?
Best regards

Yup that's what's showing when I go "Show Version" from Preferences page 6 on Tom Tom 300.
Best regards

In answer to my own question above, I have had a reply from Tom Tom Support, see below:
My Question:

Am I entitled to any further updates free within my 12 month download period? |
Reply:

We will have furthure updates, but not with free downloads period. We can not tell when the next updates will be.

So the way I am interpreting it, the 12 month download period I have with my recent map purchase entitles me to download only the version I paid for. kind of safe storage in case I lose my original download.
Which gets me wondering about this extra update from v605 as mentioned in this thread to V632 which I downloaded.
For example anyone who purchased and downloaded the new V605 would not be entitled to this updated V632 even though it was released very soon after.
Clear as mud if you ask me
Best Regards

I recently bought a TOMTOM GO 700 for my parents (we're talking two weeks ago) I was so impressed I have today ordered myself the same one.
I assume that the maps & software which is on my parents' and the one that will hopefully arrive in a couple of days for me is therefore already out of date?
Am I really going to be faced with an upgrade charge already?

No; if you buy a 700 now.
For your parents: depends on when exactly you bought it.
If after 20 Nov. then no. If before then yes.

david, when you order the 700, be sure to look out for rebates and discounts. I saw Best Buy has $85 in savings this week, but unfortunately I've spent all my money on xmas gifts.
and so i have this straight, you get 12 months of free downloads? that's not too bad considering the maps are usually great quality. tele atlas has to make a buck somehow. |

No. There is no 12 month free upgrade period - the 12 months referred to above is simply the amount of time his download link is going to work for.
Out of the goodness of their hearts (!) TomTom have said that if you bought a system after 20th November 2004 they will upgrade you to the maps just released, but that is it. |

just had a response from TOMTOM to say they have no time to give for an update for the maps in my GO 700s (so I am assuming the new maps available for the less expensive TOMTOMs will be better than the ones on mine!? which is irritating) they also say if there are updates to the map it won't be free .. then gave me a link to a free download .. which was the updated o/s not a map.
confused?
they say :
Quote: | The GO 700 is a drive in itself and does not use SD cards. The only way to update is via the update below.
Should any Upgrades become available they would be payable and downloadable via your My TomTom account.
Currently, there is no information of any new Upgrades becoming available.
Please log onto the web address below to obtain the FREE GO 700 map update along with instructions:
