Tom. You will get yours at the Basingstoke Meet.
How do I know this? I have the 18th one off the production line, and I am testing it at the moment. If all else fails you can have mine untill a new one heads your way... _________________ Mike Barrett |

Mike,
Any news on when these might be available in the shops... or how the testing is going, will there be a review posted at some point? Am interested in getting one of these for my medion ppc250 (assuming it will work?)
thanks

Indeed you will be getting the first one in the country (so get there early) and we will be on hand with our camera to grab some shots.
GlobalSat UK will be launching the SD-502 in the UK tomorrow exclusively at the PocketGPSWorld.com GPS Event at Basingstoke. And they will have plenty there for people to buy.
OK So I have the first Globalsat SD-502 in the country, but Tom will be getting the first production device. _________________ Mike Barrett |

Mike I will try and comb hair ready for the pics when I get off the bike .
As my son has just nicked my pda because he is travelling to far off North Finchley tomorrow I am trying to strap my laptop to the handlebars as I am worried at having to go from southampton to basingstoke without jane cooing directions in my ear.

Well just like to thank you for pulling my number out. Picked the GlabalSat 502 Great little prize, Trouble is Dont work with my Orange SPV500, cannot find 512 card in PDA no sign in on my SD card reader on Toshiba laptop.
is it broken or just my 2 devices that cant see it. Seems to have a flashing green light when in Pda SD Slot so I guess something is working. No 512Mb card to install maps Showing |

I tried the 502 in my laptop the other day and it didnt work. This is not a surprise as it sould need a driver to work.
There is a driver at http://www.globalsat.com.tw/system/download/GPSDisk.v131.armv4.cab but I think that is only for PDAs.
I will ask Globalsat later today and see what they say.
It wont work in the Orange C500 as this takes the mini sd and does not have the space for the GPS. _________________ Mike Barrett |

Mike
I was guessing that the SD card would show up on my sd card reader built into the laptop.
I know the gps wont work it states that in the manual, My Orange SPV in a M500 pda. installed the drivers from disc to pda but no sign of sd card in File Explorer after a little playing with setting got the GPS green light to flash. Thanks for a great show have decided to stick with my bluetooth GPS and ebay the SD502.

So has any one got and feedback on these SD502's yet?
I'm tempted to replace my sluggish serial port device - presumably TT5 will be happy to use the deivce? |

Hi All,
You will certainly need to install the drivers before your PDA will see the memory on the SD502 and the drivers are only available for your PocketPC, so it isn't likely to work with your laptop's card reader.
If you are concerned as to whether the device will work with your PDA, then check out the compatibility list on the following page.
http://www.globalsat.co.uk/product_sd502.htm
The list shows the devices that have so far been tested with the Globalsat SD502. It will be added to as and when new devices are tested. _________________ www.easydevices.co.uk

Hiya
I'm also super keen to get a hold of the Sd-502.
Any ideas when an XDA IIs compatible device will come to market?
Thanks

I am also looking to get the SD502 for use on my Medion PPC250... anyone any idea if this will work? I know other SDIO devices seem to be fine with this kit so hopefully it has half a chance... not sure what the ppc250 is a clone of? |

Hi,
I've got a SD502 running with my ipaq 1930. works great with both memory map and vito navigator however, I've got medion navigator 4.2. I can see my current location on the map, my destination on the map, the software can see the GPS and gets a good signal fix but when I try to navigate it states "unable to calculate route, your current position is outside the range of the map".
Any Ideas |

I had to send my first sd-502 back to Easydevices as it simply would not lock onto any sats despite being connected to my Axim for hours.
To their credit they sent me a new one in about 2 days but somehow spoilt it for me by saying they had locked on to 6 sats in a few minutes and they were sending me a new unit as a goodwill gesture.
Frankly I dont believe they managed to get the 1st unit working. I have tested the unit over the past week. When it locks on it is fine, not as sensitive as my BT-338 but how many sats do you need when driving?
However its performance is not consistent. On Christmas eve I drove from near Hampton Court to Romford in Essex to visit my Mum in hospital. It only locked on 100 yards from the hospital! On the return journey it locked on in 2 minutes and worked fine!
On this basis I feel I could not recomend this device as anything other than a spare unit as it does not seem reliable. |
