Slow/lagging GPS?

Why is it that the PDA information is always a second or so behind the real speed? I'd have thought with todays technology that it would be instantaneous. I have an ipaq 4150 running TT3, connected by BT to a Navman 4100 GPS receiver.

I'll be upgrading to Tomtom 5 and the Globalstat 338 receiver so will I notice an improvement?

Is that receiver THE one to go for at the moment?

it really all depends on the conditions like:

Weather
How many stats you have locked
What type of road are you on straight where average speed is the same or twisty with constant speed changes.
How fast you are going.

All commercial GPS units (civil that is) update at a rate of once per second, to achieve a higher update rate needs military equipment, which is not avail to the public, if you are noticing more than one second delay on the screen try turning off the POI - it normally increases the screen update rate. - Mike
