If I'm anything like a typical user - lazy, dislike untidy wiring, looks for eay solutions first - then hopefully my feedback is useful.

I went for an Arkon mount (CM629 I think) when I had my first gps mouse (Haicom 203) but all the wiring was too much & too messy. So I got the Globalsat BT308 which uses the same charge connection as my Ipaq. Less wiring as the cable is only used if either the Ipaq or BT308 is in need of a charge.

Now the Arkon seems too plasticky and I'm in the market for a better mount. I guess a few people end up upgrading and tend to spend more time (and money) on the second mount.

So I'm in the market for a new one. Would prefer a socket mount like yours rather than the side grabbing arms like the Arkon. I have a Ford Escort and disklike having to keep the front ashtray open to use the cigar lighter. So was planning a hard-wired mount with an option to use a 5v feed to recharge the BT308 occasionally. Wires not to be seen!

So perhaps a 5v point would be useful but not essential. But the extra serial & ps2 wiring is the reason I would not buy the unit reviewed - too many wires.

Ok, i got your point.

But i don't think at this piont, it's up to us to produce adaptor cables for all available Bluetooth GPS Receivers which are avialable on the market.

I am with Stevie on this, having a 5V outlet on the cradle would allow me to connect ny Emtac when it gets low on power but without having to add another cigarette lighter socket. Otherwise I end up wiring in the cradle and adding an additional socket. Steve

The benefit of Bluetooth is that I can hide the unit away and only connect the power cable when it needs charging. It's also much easier to take with you in another car, like when you are a passenger.

Most of the time I don't have any leads connected, running both the Ipaq & BT308 on battery - no unsightly cables at all. I hate having to use the cigarette lighter socket but might consider a wired in power source. I haven't done so as the Arkon mount I have is not powered and seems too plastic & cheap.

What is the use of bluetooth when your gonna connect a cable to your Bluetooth GPS Receiver.

The big advantage of bluetooth is that it's wireless, so you don't have to connect any cables. What you want to do is connect a cable to your Bluetooth GPS, can't you better buy a regular GPS Receiver with a PS/2 Cable then?

The price seems OK to me given the built in power.

However, I'd prefer to see options without the serial & ps2 for those of us with Bluetooth.

My ideal would be something like this but with an extension to power my Globatsat BT308 or a base that took a standard Ipaq power connector (then I'd use the leads supplied with the globalsat)

First of all i would like to thank Darren for writing a review about our products.

Concerning a couple of your questions...

About pricing, i think for the solution we're offering, the pricing i quite fair. When you consider which technology we used to produce this cradle.

The plastics are molded, this technology is very expensive. First you have to make a 3D CAD design after that you have to make a moldingtool this is the most expensive part of the process.

Also our electronic charging system is build inside the cradle and not inside the coventional cigarette plug, which most of our competitors have. We did this, because now it's possible to install the cradle permanent into the vehicle, by cutting of the cigarette plug and connecting the enclosed fuseholder onto the cradle. We decided to do it this way, because most of our customers are professional installers which require this kind of solution.

Regarding the 39/37 series model, this cradle is actually like Darren said, phased out. But we recently got some large requests for it, so maybe in the neir future it will be available again.

To be fair that price is consistent with the Brodit Products given that the Carcomm has an RS-232 lead as well. I would expect the price to be directly comparable once a UK Retailer is appointed.

As for the 36/37xx series model, Carcomm have advised that this product is no longer available.

Not that it matters to me, since I don't own one, but according to their website they do do one for the 36/37. It shows a 36/37 series iPAQ in the crale, but the description body text mentions 38/39/54! A case of cut and paste, maybe?

Hi,
These mounts seem perfect with tidy cables, including serial GPS receiver
connections BUT Where can you buy them in the UK? I have contacted Carcomm 3 times but they do not see fit to reply.

Are there any other powered PDA mounts (for iPAQ 3850) with connections for Haicom 303MMF GPS receiver.

All alternatives appreciated
