Sandisk Extreme III 1 Gb SD card in an iCN510.
No problems at all with it and it appears to run a tad quicker than the 512Mb Kingston I had in before. |

Kingston 512mb (as below) works fine on my iCN510 - a larger card would enable me to put more of the European maps on, at the moment I have the European Basemap plus those areas through which I am likely to pass for street level planning. No perceptable delays..... _________________ Gee-Pee

Daytona, i do have the same card. But did you also have some problems with GPS-fix when calculating a route?
What i mean is :
- I have a GPS-fix.
- I calculate a route
- At 90-99% it loses it gps-fix.
- i'll wait for 20-40 seconds, get another GPS-fix and it's ok for take-off
- Not always but often.
Did you format the card before you used it? |

I've had that problem as well, but only odd times. Always seems to clear and behave although it has done it a couple of times when doing the "back on track" which is most disconcerting...
Have also experienced it using the Kingston card as well so I don't think it's card related.
Not sure if I did format the card..... Bought it for going over to Europe, found I was struggling with the 512Mb card so I got the Sandisk and the European maps, loaded it up around June and it's not been near a PC since!
One thing I have noticed it keeps saying "bear left" and "bear right" but most I've seen are sheep, cows or the odd horse. Never a bear... |

Hi all
This is A well debated topic.
I am still looking for that large trouble free card (1GB), for my 510.
I do get the same problems as most users, I have a 512MB card.
But if there is someone out there that has a large (1 GB) card that gives no problems of any kind for the ICN. Please tell us and make the rest of us users more content with our Sat Navs.
Regards

Could I have found the Holy Grail of SD cards?
I have a 1GB 50X speed SD card made by A Data (called My Flash), and comes with a lifetime warranty.
I have this loaded with maps of UK, France & Spain, as well as the usual host of camera and other POI's.
The card has been faultless in operation and has shown no ideosyncrasies to date of what has been discussed above.
Cost of the card was £32 including postage from Hong Kong. |

Hi All
Still looking for that perfect memory card.
If there are any technocrats out there that could put some light on this post I would be great full.
I have done a lot of surfing and found the following.
There are SD & MMC cards they are dimensionally the same.
But there is a vast difference between the two.
The highest read speed I can find for a 1 Meg SD card is 9 MB/S.
The highest read speed for a 1 Meg MMC card is 15 MB/S (megabytes per second).
The write speed I don’t think matters as you have to load the maps on in the first place. I use a read writer and not the ICN to do this.
I am under the impression that the problem with a large card in an ICN, is that the Navman cannot access the card quick enough, so that is why it gives us so much grief.
So if a MMC card can be used in stead of a SD card, this faster speed would certainly help, “If I am correct”. If not can someone point me in the right direction?
Regards

I have a Sandisk Extreme III 1Gb SD card (it was a very good price on Ebay) and I understand it is the read speed which is important on the bigger cards for the unit to work well.
According to Sandisk, I get "Min 20MB/second** sequential read and write"
