MikeB did originally say that everybody would get a free upgrade, perhaps Mike you could double check your source and report back to us with an official response? Cheers :D |

I can confirm that as yet, NAVTEQ the map supplier to Garmin has not had V8 to test. This usually arrives weeks or months before the product hits the market. |

I emailed Garmin support this morning asking about the V8 free updates and this is the reply I recieved:
Hello Andy,
All i3 customers in the UK will be entitled to a free update to version 8 maps. There is no release date as of yet for version 8 but we anticipate around November/December time. Our website will publish the inforamtion needed on how to update the mapping once version 8 is released.
Thank you for contacting Garmin Europe.
If you have any further questions please let me know.
Regards,

So it does look like we will get the upgrade and should all just keep checking Garmins website awaiting instructions. |

Thanks for posting that reply Andy... one to be kept 'on file' for now I reckon!
It does sound encouraging news though! |

Very intersting ....
Does this suggest tht those who have version 8 on their i3's may have some form of Beta or test release of the software?
It still does not answer the question of why there are so many mixed messages being given by Garmin, depending on who you are put in contact with.
And ... as my contact at Garmin said "what you hear on forums is only hear-say" |

Could it be that 'City Select Europe NT (v7)' and 'City Navigator Europe NT+ (v8) are one and the same thing and that Garmin have just changed the name to align it with some other, existing, map product range?
But, then again, if that is so you would have thougght that Tech Support would know that |

I agree about the mixed messages from garmin, however my email has been saved for a rainy day :D .
Not sure how I can prove that it is an authentic email, you'll just have to take my word for it I suppose. |

'europe' and 'navigater' have been running along side each other for a few years now..it looks like garmin are trying to streamline their mapping products and eventually only have one .......... _________________ *************************** |

Hi Andy,
I am sure that no one on this forum would have any reason to think otherwise, but if Garmin do start to have second thoughts at some later date, the properties of the original email should contain sufficient proof to show where it was actually sent from, including their server information etc.
Just make sure that you keep it in a safe place! |

Ah ... but if you read the diaclamier on their email, it says that it for the intended recipient only. So, Andy is OK with his email about getting updates, but it does not necessarily apply to everyone, only the recipient.

I agree, I have saved it both locally and externally just in case I need it in the future. |

Agree that it does says everone, but it would be difficult for someone else to use an email sent directly to Andy as evidence when the contents of the email should not have been disclosed to anyone. It does not matter what the contents of the email are - they are only intended for Andy. The discalimer is quite clear.
Quite rightfully, Andy has decided to put the email in the public domain, which goes against the Confidentiality disclaimer.
This is not an official announcement - it is simply a message to Andy. |

Simple answer really to you all, email Garmin directly and hopefully you will all get the same response that I received. However I think if they are saying to me that I would get a free upgrade then you would presume that everybody would be getting one. |

I've been running my new i3 with version 8 of the map this morning. Apart from the map I think that it is definatly quicker at redrawing whilt on the move. There are more in built poi's.
When I first switched it on it asked me to select spoken voice language. This option I never got when I first switched on my old one. This time I was able to select 'british english'.
Don't bother woth waas, stick with GPS on, as it is more accurate. |
