|
|
Following a rom upgrade to my HP hx4700 iPAQ it's now back in a "virgin" state.
I want to install CP5 back onto it - my cd's are version 5.0.1.24. I've got the update to v5.0.1.48 from the ALK EU website and am ready to go. However last time when i installed the update it installed itself into the main memory - I prefer to install most things onto my memory card to keep as much internal space and resources as free as possible - this meant I had 2 seperate versions installed on my machine.
Whats the best way to install it all back onto my memory card (via card reader) so's I don't make the same mistakes again?
Cheers,

I didn't think you could install the program or update via card reader, doesn't this have to be via Active Sync with thte iPaq in the cradle?
At installation time, as you probably know, CP prompts 'do you want to install in the default location?', meaning main memory. You can answer No, then select the Storage Card from a pull-down list. I can't remember if this option is given also with updates.
I have always installed to main memory, expecting that I will get quicker routing solutions. I place a QuickStart on the SD Card to give me some chance of recovering CP after a hard reset on the road. _________________ Doug

@ BMWBiker - Thats what I did last time -i.e. selected NO to install into main memory and installed it to the card. BUT when you copy the update cab onto the PPC and run it then it will only install into main memory, and as far as I can see theres no way to stop that an install it to the card.
I'd prefer the whole lot to be just on the card for various reasons. I use a card reader when ever possible, primarily for speed, but also because I've come across occasional problems with certain filetypes being mis-interpreted and wrongly converted by active-sync. |

Northernbloke:
Thanks for info. Sounds like you have discovered a bug "CP updates cannot be insalled to storage card".
Wouldn't it be nice if the list of known bugs were made available?
Good luck _________________ Doug

I think if you install the pc update then 1.48 then reinstall then map in the dowload data wizzard select create quickstart the will install the program files to the sd card via a card reader you can then activate cp5 by tapping the cab files in the 2577 folder on the sd card _________________ currently using aponia truck navigation on windows phone. Thanks Alix, I'll try that. I have the 2577 folder on the CF card, but last time I used that it reinstalled CP5 into the PDA memory. The reason I want to run it off the card is that I also use Mapopolis (from card) and I need to keep as much memory as possible free in the PDA because it's necessary to have the selected maps running in main memory to get acceptable sped

Yes m8 - format the card, purchase and install TomTom 5 - it gives a nice option during install for where/how to install itself. |

There is a way of doing this using a program called cabinstal that you can find on the web (you might need to change the details depending upon your exact installation):
1. Install the file cabinstal_en.exe to a directory
on your PPC using ActiveSync.
2. Copy the CoPilot cab file to a directory on your PPC (any).
3. Using File Explorer, click on cabinstal_en.exe to start the program.
4. Click on .CAB
5. Select eg SD card\Temp\CoPilot.arm2003.cab
(NB You need to double click on folder names to select.)
OK
6. Click on Path
Select eg SDCard\CoPilot Pocket PC
OK
.CAB should now show \SD Card\Temp\CoPilot.arm2003.cab
Path Should now show \SD Card\CoPilot Pocket PC
7. Click Install.
If you get everything right, you should only have one CoPilot Pocket PC
directory anywhere on your PPC. If you have another one in main RAM, it
has not installed into the original directory on the SD card. |

I updated the desktop version to the latest available, but also copied the PDA updates to C:\Program Files\CoPilot\PocketPC5\CEQStart. When the quickstart is created the v48 files are copied to the SD card. |
