Go 700 traffic download takes 6mins+ ?

I've finally managed to set up tomtom live with my Sony s700i, it seems very tempremental, when I select traffic either the Go or the phone often crashes or the phone disconnects from GPRS but the GO until still shows as downloading. Occasionally it works but traffic takes about 6 or 7 mins to download is that normal? You can travel a long way and get into a lot of traffic in 6 minutes. Is it likely to be the phone or the go unit causing the problem? (Phone provider is Vodafone on a contract)
