Interesting..........
The law on "Was.... Now....." promoting is quite strict.
If a company advertises a product like this.....
Buy the new wizzy thing - Was 300 now only 150, save 150
It can only quote that "was price" if it was in effect for 28 days or more.
I think the key word to look at in that advert is RRP - Recommended Retail Price - there's nothing forcing retailers to stick to this figure.
If you've still got it, cut out the advert and keep it safe - we'll all see what the situation is in a few months.[/i] |

Still got the advert, I'll keep it with my i3 box. Says its available from all the usual stores: Dixons Group, Maplin, Halfords, Comet, Argos, Staples & Motorworld. So we'll just have to see...... |

Just checked the advert again. No mention of "Was....", just RRP & "Now only...." |

anybody that has shopped in MFI or DFS etc knows that the RRP or MRP is a fantasy figure... _________________ *************************** |

I kinda figure it like this: I was happy with the price of £199 - I thought the i3 was a bargain at that price - and I still do.
I bought mine only a week or so back, and within days I'd noticed Argos selling it at £179. I know on the day I bought mine (actually from a Dixons high street store) that Argos also sold them, and on that day for the same price £199 (which the Argos stock check unit mentioned was already a reduction in price, I think from £249). I'd decided to go to a Dixons, so that I could actually easily check the i3, and check it definitely had a 256 M transflash card - because still so many adverts just mentioned 128.
So within days of me buying mine, it was seemingly being sold for £20 cheaper. These things happen - that's the "price" ;-) you pay for buying fairly early. I honestly don't expect there can be much mileage for them getting any cheaper, and there are signs that many are going back to £199.
Either way, I'm happy, it was a fair price to pay, £20 is not much difference (I mean for sure, I would buy somewhere selling it for £20 cheaper at the time). Sure, I could feel slightly cheated that it's now available a little cheaper, but I've got one, now, and it's not such a huge amount.
Invariably these things always seem to come down in price, but there's a lower limit, too. |

Yeah, but it doesn't have to be at that price in all their stores. It may have been advertised at that price in one of their stores in Outer Mongolia for 28 days and then the one in Oxford Street can say "Was... Now...." quite legally (with added fine print mentioning which store it was that price in).
It makes the whole Was... Now... thing a meaningless scam really. Rip-off Britain at it's best.. _________________ Gone fishing! |

I bought an i3 yesterday from Maplins for £199.99
I returned it today under their 14 day return policy and bought the same unit from Argos for £169.99 and I got a £10 Argos voucher too. That's a saving of £40 and makes the i3 price effectively £159.99 |
