Pete, I have it running and it works well. Just done a trip to Paris with it from Yorks and it ran without a problem.
However, it does take a while to set up initially and took me days of pulling my hair out. Setting up the virtual com port is easy. Creating your first database takes an eternity but once done it's easy to update. The hardest bit is the ini file which requires you to comment out all the bits you don't need using notepad otherwise you end up with a trillion overlays all over your destinator screen.
I haven't time right now to write up the proceedure. I plan to give it a whirl soon but not tonight. You'll find more details about it if you do a search.
I shared some of my edited configuration with TravisB and he seems to have it running fine. What hardware are you using?
In the meantime you can read a bit more about it in this thread http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=28391&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
But in short, if the sh*te nature of the Destinator PN 'favorites' thing drives you insane then its worth the struggle. _________________ Tom Tom GO 720

I decided I'd rather keep my hair so I went for a different solution.
I have purchased a copy of AA Speedcare and loaded that on my PDA. It took all of about two minutes to load and set-up and it works fine.
I have now discovered that if I have both Destinator PN and the AA Speedcare loaded and active they work OK together. If I have PN as the active screen, then Speedcare will pop up it's camera warning screen and audio warning over PN. When the camera is passed it returns to PN. If Speedcare is the active screen, with the GPS speed showing for example, then PN will still give all it's voice instructions from the background.
Seems to work very well and with absolutely no problems setting up and getting it to work. As far as I'm concerned it's £60 well spent.
It also works in just the same way with Memory-Map OS maps which, if you don't need audio route instructions, are much better at indicating your position than the PN maps.

Fair enough Dave but if you're gonna spend £60 on an add-on program you might as well spend the total amount on another GPS program with better POI support. You could get Tom Tom with European maps for something in that region of price. If you've already forked out for Destiantor I guess its viable but I managed to get POIObserver working as I liked it and it it was free. But you do need to set aside a week of you're life to crack it!
As a gesture to the guys who wrote and shared it I'm considering doing a piece on how to get it working well with Destinator but it'll be a while as it takes a fair bit of work to do and even longer to write it up! _________________ Tom Tom GO 720

I've tried a copy of TomTom in the past and it could not find the address where my mother has lived for the past 80 years or even the road in Austria where the hotel we generally stay in is located. At least Destinator PN finds both without any problems. I have also used it in Germany to find addresses in quite small places and it has worked fine.
As a program I like Destinator, it's just that I don't fancy the idea of spending a week or more try to get it to do what I want. I also like the screens of the AA Speedcare which give you an accurate speed reading in large letters as well as camera information and type etc. Yes it costs me an extra £60 but it checks for updates automatically every week when I connect the PDA to my main PC, which I do every day, and installs them without any further intervention from me. _________________ Dave R (h5djr)

Just to confirm that I have POI Observer and Destinator PN running ok, thanks to much skyping betweeen Jimbo_Hippo and myself, and the pain was worth it in the end.
I was one of those who had the POI's working in Destinator anyway, but was fustrated that Destinator was so useless at handling them in the first place. _________________ LG G4, Google Nexus 9, Garmin Oregon 600T |

Look to this link:

Download the .rar for British users. It's a very simple way to install program POIobserver.
Just login, load down and work step by step. Installing first time requires
10 min.
