|
|
Hello, first post and i'm after some help!
I am thikning about buyin the i3, price at the moment is very tempting, but I have a few question which I can't see the answers for, hope you guys can help!
1) I have read the map software is out of date, are Garmin providing and upgrade? I have not been able to find a UK Garmin website, is there one?
2) I assume the cigarette adapter is a curly (telephone) type wire, I will need to position the system in the left corner of my car, so this would be no good. Are you able to buy a straight wire (no curls ) or an adaptor of some sort.
3) Are you only able to do postcode searches? Can you search for a street name (without postcode)?
4) What sort of momeory capicity do you have to store POI's? I have read you cant copy the map data to a bigger memory card.
Thats about all I can think of at this moment! Hope someone can help!!!
Cheers

I don't think the answer to any of the questions you've asked should put you off buying one, but here goes:-
Current map issue is V7, V8 out soon (rumoured next month) see later thread about update
Car cable is straight. If position a problem buy rechargables
Yes postcode and street name search
Nope, the map won't copy, but MaFt hasn't moaned he's filled up the POI allocation of memory
Just buy one from Argos (at the best price) and if you don't like it take it back. I really think that once you've got it you 'll wonder why you worried |

A warm welcome Gary
Go 4 it especially with a tenner off that makes £179.99 you won't be disappointed.
btw Maplins have a few returned I3's in stock for just under £189.99 bet they are from Paulo's returns ;)
Best regards

That, oddsock, is the BIG question
Evidence suggest update to V8 will be FOC
Suggest you read map update thread to get full picture
Alot of owners waiting with crossed finger - me included |

is it possible to navigate TO a saved POI, instead of it just warning you when you are near it (like what happens with the speed cameras) |

I havent seen this so far through reading the forums so apologies if its there somewhere
But..
When the speed camera database is loaded what does the i3 do?
How does it warn you?
Will it warn me of things on the other side of the road or if i'm going to slow?
Whats the warning distance range?
Thanks |

Oh, it'll let you know when you're near a camera alright!!
Depending on the proximity alert settings you get a bong and a red banner when you approach telling you the speed limit
It also bongs if you are going too fast thro the limit
Hope this helps |

A few little questions from me if I may be so bold.
I already have a TomTom 700 which I will keep for the car. I am mainly interested in the i3 for use on foot and when out on the country roads on my bike.
Is it possible to specify a destination/waypoint on the map with cursors or whatever?
For that matter is it possible to actually browse the map at all? Take this scenario; I am on foot in a city centre; can't pick up any sats because of the tall buildings! I see a street sign and by entering that street name I could browse the map and get an idea where the hell I am/need to go.
How loud is the voice compared to say TomTom?
If I store a favourite is this 'snapped' to a road as TomTom likes to do? You know the old I want to find my car in the car park scenario!
Can I zoom in /out the map, while navigating or browsing? |
