anyway, i just read this about the firmware on their faq, which might be of interest to most of u out there..

Simply do a soft reset by pushing your stylus in the little hole on the right side, below the earphone output socket.
The version can be read from the left upper corner on a black screen during a few seconds while restarting.
Version number is displayed after the model number.
For example: 268.R16.4.101.422.
ROM Image version is R16.
For some new accessories the ROM Image version needs to be up-to-date. Currently Mio does not release ROM Images to the public. However, we are working on a ROM Image patch which will be added to the accessories that requires newer ROM version. |
so maybe there's hope for tmc for all us pre-fw16-unit owners after all. if mio do in fact release such an upgrade, then i'm more than willing to forgive and forget! |
The last Rom image for Mio 269 is R17 (WinCEIMG.BIN) ( 2005-10-19 )

Hey, talisman_t.
Are you saying your image is R17 ( and are being a smug git ;o ) or that it is 'available'...?
If it's available can you point me in it's direction (don't fancy the anticipated long wait for the official patch).
cheers. |

Cheers NeilBennett..
They keep doing craft updates to their web site.. i didn't check it for a couple of days.
Flashed okay (when you re-boot at the end you have to wait a while for it to kick off fully... thought it had died for a while there.).
It re-installs from your original sd card and if you unlocked it you'll have to go through the process again. I prob won't bother until i get version 2 through the door.
If any one finds the TMC antena for a reasonable price please post the info - £50 from mio seems a bit steep (though i guess it's got a receiver built in..?). |

|
|
I did the update yesterday - all went well but it obviously the flash area of memory goes, so had to reset the pref.ini file for using POIobserver and Virtcom. On launch I hit the contacts application launcher and custommio launched and unlocked the unit back to its previous state - good job that all my apps have been installed to the hard drive.
Still waiting for the Version 2 software ..... _________________ Neil |

Greetings, I was delighted to see that there is now a R17 rom upgrade available for my mio 269, however before upgrading my 269.R13.4.102.302 I would be interested to know what benefits it would give me. Does anybody know what changes are in the new image? Is there a way back once an upgrade has been performed?
Regards, Dave |

djrm,
hi, nothing in the image looks or feel different, but it should enable the use of the Traffic FM service within MioMap 2. ROM images prior to this will not support this functionality apparently.

Also did upgrade to 17 on my 269 - seems ok no probs
Be warned when you do hard reset after flashing or in the future, you now have to tap the screen or press a button after initial switch on else the Mio 269 screen is constantly displayed - Thought I had broke it for a while!!!! |
