Hello All
I am writing a small application (SmartContacts2POI) to get round the problem that TomTom mobile does not allow you to navigate to an address from your phone contacts list. THIS IS ONLY FOR MICROSOFT SMARTPHONES.
It uses a web service to lookup the possition of the postcode, and writes out a TomTom POI file (OV2) to the directory of your choice. You can then use the Contacts POI in TomTom to navigate to a contacts address.
This is the first ALPHA release, so don't expect everything to work all the time!
I have tested it only on an unlocked orange c500 and it works all the way through. with the following exceptions:
1) You have to connect to the internet via activesync, currently there seems to be a problem with the postcode lookup webservice via GPRS.
2) You will need a decertified phone to run the application as it is not signed.
Obviously this is not feature complete i plan to include the following in future releases:
1) Creation of business and home contacts to different POI files
2) Faster / better postcode lookup
3) Faster overall application speed
4) A nice installer
5) Caching of processed contacts so you dont have to process them all everytime you add a new contact
You can download the alpha release as a .cab file whch can be copied to and run from the phone to install from the link below

Please can you let me know and problems, comments or suggestions in this thread.
Thanks
Brian Norman

Can't you do better than just PostCode lookup? Can you use the Microsoft MapPoint service or something similiar to get Lat/Lon of a given address? _________________ Lutz

Forgot to mention, currently its UK only.
The postcode webservice is the best i've found so far. Mappoint would be perfect, but have you seen the costs for mappoint webservice lookups?
The smallest volume of lookups you can buy costs £1,500. Anyone got any donations :-) !!

Hi Brian
I don't suppose the WebService you're using is a free one is it?
I'm writing a website to allow members to view club POI's, submit new POI's and find clubs that are close to them.
I'm currently looking for a webservice that will give an approximate lat/long for a given UK Postcode - the webservice you're using sounds ideal (if it's free )
I'd appreciate a link to it if you don't mind.
All the best
