I echo one of the earlier posts that said about an AVOID option, even if you couldn't specify a road then perhaps you could avoid the town nearest to the problem area so that it would calculate a route away from it...OK would be a problem for a CITY as it would be hard to avoid this if you were living in a city, but just a thought. |

Don't forget this is an American product and the Americans don't know the difference between a town and a city, so you'll only confuse the poor dears.
(You'll know what I mean if you've ever filled in a form on a US web site).

In addition to the current map view, how about a satellite screen which shows the number and position of the satellites in view and also a screen which would show the direction and speed and a list of other info, perhaps average speed, max speed trip odometer etc. I think these could be added to addional menu items belo the "map view".
I have an eTrex which has this info and I find it quite useful. |

Yeah, the Trip screen and sats page are there on the Quest too. I really don't know why they "dumbed down" the i3 so much and removed these. Maybe they don't want to confuse people? _________________ Gone fishing! |

garmin have produced a basic gps with basic navigation...surely if you want more features you get a c310/c320 etc......i am extremely satisfied with my i3, it tells me where i am ,navigates to where i want to go and tells me when to slow down for the speed cameras....i appreciatte that peeps like to have 'extra features' on their i3 and like to sound off their thoughts but honestly what more do you want for £199 ! _________________ *************************** |

I agree with all the people that have said for the new software version update: on the map keep the zoom selection on the bar you select perminantly and not automatically zoom 3/4 bars up. okay it might be to give u the most suitable view when driving but i think people should have the option to choose it for their own needs
Its SO ANNOYING is it a bug/glitch? so please get them to sort that out
I might be a newbie but my wants are as good as the next man :P Anyway ive got some handcuffs and a plane ticket just incase i need to protest about it... |

Man these "Johnny stiff upper lip" types do my head in okay its only £199 but it seems to me if these brave boys hadnt badgered for software updates and made their feelings known about other little things we would all be sitting in our cars with a frozen map screen. :P
On the other side of things though we dont want to Garmin by wanting too many things do we? they might get mad and irritated |

I'll put this piece here as well as the other thread about Garmin's vulnerability to be stolen as this thread may be monitored by Garmin. In my opinion the most important enhancement that Garmin could offer would be to render the unit useless or to be able to inform the police of its location in the event of the unit getting stolen from a car. This is the only way that people can enjoy having their units in the car all the time while stopping thugs from benefiting by ruining other people's lives. If GPS has the ability to monitor how much we drive (for future road charges) or monitor our speed then surely this ability should be used first to protect us from thieves. If this would require any effort at all from Garmin (which I think is very much worth while) then the least thing they can do is to block providing unlock codes for future updates for any unit ID that is reported to Garmin as stolen. |

They could ask for a pin number when they start up, a bit like a mobile phone does. Simple, but effective. If someone forgot the PIN then they could have a facility to get a master unlock code for it using either the unit serial number (enter it into a web page which checks against a hotlist) or the license code that came with Mapsource and is registered to your unit.
As for reporting the location, that would be awesome, but I don't see any way to do it without adding a radio transmitter to the GPS (which would be too expensive) _________________ Gone fishing! |

Yes I know its an inexpensive unit, but so is the etrex. I'm thinking that the suggested software enhancements would be fairly straightforward to implement-without any hardware implications.
To be honest I wouldn't be fussed if there were no further software enhancements but as that’s the title of this series of posts then what’s the harm in suggesting?

What about a route summery screen that would give you more information on the route that the i3 has just calculated. Info like total miles, total time, perhaps even a rough estimate of the cost of the fuel?
At present you just get an arrival time, which is great, but I’d quite like a little more info. Perhaps it could just be an information box that flashed up for a few seconds after the route has been calculated then disappeared. That would keep things simple for those that don’t like to push too many buttons. What do you think? |

All of these features and much, much more are present on other Garmin units like the Quest. I guess Garmin have deliberately removed them on this model, perhaps to keep it simple or perhaps to cut costs to the bone. _________________ Gone fishing! |

Owned a TT300 for about six months and now swaping ovr to a I3 basically for the size of the thing and the positive reports on here. Just one question on mapping if anyone can help as the various adverts around contradict each other.
Does the I3 include or not the major roads of Europe if purchased from Argos for £179.
Are cards available from garmin for the I3 for the other EU counties and how much.
Regards
Phil.

I'd second that, plus a view of the proposed route as Tom Tom does. I know it's a cheap unit and what do you expect for your money and all that but I used mine the other day and was expecting to get to my destination via a motorway. The i3 took me in a completely different direction which I found a bit disconcerting. It got me there (and probably quicker than the longer motorway route) but I was continually expecting to turn onto the motorway and never did and, as a result, felt fairly lost (although I wasn't, of course because I had my Sat Nav with me :D ).
I know there is a Turns Review that describes the journey but it is a whole lot easier and more comforting to just see it displayed. |
