I would be interested in any wiring details you have for an IPAQ port, to hardwire into GPS reciver /car. Do you know if it is possible to output audio through bottom port, albeit at a very low level.

Audio does not flow through the sync port, but you can take audio out of the 3.5mm headphone jack socket.

would it be possible to adapt a haicom 202e usb reciever to the cradle this way, is it a matter of getting the Rx and Tx data flow connected and direct the power requirement to the plug at the back of the cradle,



any help would be appreciated...

Nothing has changed about your HI-202E from the answer I gave you in this thread - the synchronisation port has no USB host capability, so you'd have to convert the GPS to serial operation (which requires major hardware work).



There's no realistic way to make a USB GPS work with an iPAQ.

I would be interested in the wiring diagrams for lutz's ipaq hard wire. I like the simplicity of just dropping the Ipaq into the cradle and would like to attempt this myself. I am trying to put a cheap in-car gps system together around my trusty 3630. I am trying for a cheaper second hand receiver of ebay and will butcher or make a cable to suit (hopefully).

A bit of Googling finds this reference that covers both 12 pin (3100/3600/3700) and 22 pin (all other) iPAQ pinouts.

Note that though the serial pins exist on 1900 series, they are not connected, and the official HP documentation (only accessible via the iPAQ Developer's programme, to my knowledge) says they are reserved.


I haven't checked this information and take no responsibility if it is incorrect. You can probably verify it using your existing cradle and a multimeter, remembering that you need a null modem between the serial connector you'd find on a cradle and the serial connector on your GPS.


Personally I'd buy a commercial serial/power cable and wire to its nine pin D connector - but that's me.
