Is it possible to upgrade and then have both Memory Map versions OS2004 and V5 installed at the same time ( on PC and PCC ), so that I can use maps which I wish to buy new on the new version and still use the old 2003 maps, which I already have, on the previous version?
Is it possible, anyway, to upgrade and still keep a working copy of the previous version?

Yes, the support forum states that both copies of the software will reside together on your computer. |

I've downloaded the V5 and it installs seperately. It also takes the licence key from 2004 so you get the 'full' functionality. I haven't tried loadding to the PDA yet and don't think I will untill I go the whole hog and get the proper maps.
To be honest, the improvements to the continuous 3D is impressive, although still no 3D (ie airborne) track . I've not really explored the changes to the Properties section but haven't much to warrant calling it a major upgrade.
Self calibrated GEOTIFFed files don't load properly on my V5. I tried to ask about this on the MM forum but kind of get the impression they don't like some of my comments and they don't get through the moderator. anybody else with this problem? _________________ Graham

I found this - Justin tends not to like questions about the Ordnance Survey in particular
One has to be very circumspect in asking questions there.
Remember, it is a manufacturers Board - they like things nice and quiet, in my experience anyway

Wingnut,
What problems are you having with the GeoTiffs? I have not had any problems yet with loading maps into the new version (and I load dozens of new maps a week from many sources).
Believe it or not, the OS gets to decide what is a "major" change to the software. Kinda goes along with that whole monopoly thing. Personally, I really like the new overlay management, but the "quality" of the upgrades is subjective. Each person is going to see the changes in reference to how they use the software. Some users think this is a huge improvement, some not so much. |

As a follow-on to my message which began this thread – thank you to all who replied – how can one upgrade online and still keep the current version? - is it not overwritten?

The GeoTiff that dont appear at the right coordinates have all been calibrated by myself using GeoTiff Examiner with the calibration embedded (ie NOT a seperate World File although I did try this too).
I notice that MM 5 now accepts another JPEG format now. Do you know of a program, equivalent to GeoTiffExaminer, that will do the same for a JPEG?

The V5 is loaded into a V5 directory under the 'Program Files' and gets its own shortcut on the desktop. They can both share the same maps directory though, if you want them to. _________________ Graham

I am not familiar with GeoTiff Examiner, but have you tried setting the datum in the MAP > DEFAULT MAP PROJECTION. You should not have to do this for most GeoTiffs, but it is worth a try. |

Thanks for your input.
I tried it with all settings (allowed) but no success.
I'm not sure if I can explain what then went on,but I'll try...
Initially the Projection Dialogue box openned with the Ordnance Survey radio button pressed and OSGB as the datum. I tried changing to Lat/Lon but was told that that was not supported for imported files.
Then I went to the edit map properties and that showd the datum to be OSGB and a WSG84 datum shift in minutes of -0.037283N and 0.042679E. I fiddled around with these setting for one particular TIFF and now its moved away from the other TIFFs it was adjascent to but its still pretty much in the same wrong place.
Now when I go into Map Project the window opens with Lat/Lon checked and WGS84 as the datum. If I say close I get the error about that projection not being allowed for imported maps.
I had a few crashes too.
There is some more info on the MM forum but no answer from Justin yet.
Any chance of sending you a file to look at?
(Has anybody else got this problem?)

One other thing.
Despite having done all that and 'moving' one of the files, they all still appear in the correct positions (as far as I can tell) on MM 2004. _________________ Graham

Hi
Can someone please confirm tha v 5 will run as a separate programme on Pocket PC, as well as on the main PC, in the same way as M M Navigator (us version) does. I too have maps that will run on one version but not the other, and would like to keep my options open, and would not want to overwrite anything on the PDA.

Yes, they should run as separate programs. Just as the European (or US) versions run as separate programs on the PDA. Of course, it is always a good idea to make a backup of your data before testing things. |

Yes, both 2004 & V5 run together on the pda. You can chose which one you wish to run (never tried to run both at the same time but with GPSgate it may work). _________________ If riding in a plane is flying then riding in a boat is swimming. If you want to experience the feeling

Whats the point in going over the same thing every year when its got nothing to do with MM. If you have a complaint, go talk to OS. |
