Hi,

I am away in Leeds for a week. I have driven up here from Hampshire, near enough to portsmouth for some bearing.

So just under a 4 hour drive using TT 5 to guide me. Althought I'd be drivbing along and it would close on me. This has happened about 3/4 times on the way up.

I had to then tap at the TT to get the program to load back up and configure its self again and it therefore picked up where it left off.

As i have said. This happened about 3 or 4 times thoughout my trip and was very annoying as it also happened on the last section of my trip when i was having to go though local estates etc... to find my final location.

Is there a reason why this is happening?

I had 4 out of 5 bar of signal at each time of its random shut downs. I was on open motorway clear of overhanging trees and other obstructions.

I am running a BT GPS reciever (Fusion?) and an iPAQ rx3715.

Both had full battery and were in a foot of each other. Also the BT reciever was on the front dash against the windscreen. I don't have a front heated windscreen as I hear that this can be a problem.

Because your not using a dedicated stand alone product there could be many reasons. I myself had Navigator do this about four times last Sunday, it had not done it before and has not done it since.

Does your PDA have an 'Auto Off' feature? The sort that saves the battery if it doesn't detect any user input for a set time. TT5 doesn't override this setting (certainly on PalmOS), and because you are not tapping or clicking on it the 'countdown' timer runs down to zero and then switches off.

This can happen if the PDA is running low on "Program Memory". Try chaning the settings on this in "Start/Settings/System/Memory". I've got around 20meg set for programs, and it works quite nicely in that, although if it gets too low I've had the same problem.

Hi I also Have a similiar problem. I have a new Ipaq HX2750, with a tomtom bluetooth receiver. When I am in the Map mode and magnify the view and search around map TT5.0 just closes and goes back to the desktop. This happens randomly from 30 seconds up to 5 minutes. Has anyone had the same problem? When I restart TT the icon on the bottom of the screen moves up one space has it thinks the old tt may still be running.

Thanks and any help would be appreciated.

thanks

that is what happens to me. it moves up a place like its the 5th icon or somthing. but to look at it there is the tomtom logo and then a good space to the right is the bluetooth/connections logo on mine.

had to take someone to leeds station last night and it failed on me so it took us a while to find it. I'm not from leeds btw.

When I used to run TT3 with a dodgy/slow SD card, I used to have similar problems. Can you try a diferent memory card and see if it still does it?

Regards,

Steve

I had the same problem, and I turned off all POI's this immediately fixed the problem.

I have since turned back on all the POI's I've added manually, speed cameras etc. and it still works.

So my advice would be turn off all TomTom's built in POI's, restaurants etc., just leave your personal ones.

Scooby.. Smile

Hi Rednut05,

What version of TomTom Navigator 5 are you running?
Have you downloaded 5.10 from the TomTom Website?

If you are still running TomTom Navigator 5.00 and decide to try 5.10, then use Sprite Backup to backup your PDA to your storage card before you upgrade to 5.10.

Regards,

Yes I think you are right about disabling the TT POI's. If I Do that the map mode does not kick me back to the desktop. I have disabled all of tomtom's poi and just enabled the ones I manualy put on. Looks like there a problems with there own POI's
