|
|
Bought a 512 (X66) SD card from my memory.co.uk. Cannot for the life of me get it to work in the TomTom as backup for original. I've tried all the methods in the forum....Zilch.... That mean red cross still keeps showing! I'm gonna ask to exchange it. They have a standard Kingston SD card of the same size for the same price. Will that card be suitable and fast enough? They also have a refurbished Sandisk UltraII secure 512 at the same price, which is a faster card...Would that card be suitable? Do I really need a high speed card. Which one do I buy?!!! HELP! |

The Kingston is as good as any other. The 512MB I had previously worked OK. _________________ Richard

Well, i've ordered a refurbished sandisk 512 ultraII because someone on the forum had the 1gig version which they said worled ok. If it fails i'll send it back again and get a kingston standard speed card. Is anyone using a high speed card in their TomTom? Is it really true they don't work? |

I've had similar problems. If I first copy the contents of the original SD card to the PC then copy from the PC to the new SD card, it doesn't work. If I plug a card reader and the TT GO to the PC at the same time and do a direct copy from the TT GO, it works. Copying it from the card reader to the TT GO doesn't work. If TT GO makes a change to the new SD card (e.g. delete a POI), the whole card gets corrupted.
I have given up and gone back to using the original SD card. |

I have a SanDisk ultra-II card 1GB. It works fine. But what I did was to copy everything using Linux (In fact it was just a cp -rp). Not Windoze. Maybe that's the problem... You never know what Windoze is going to the card, as it sees it as just another windoze VFat drive, it's probably missing something. Like hidden (.) files etc. Maybe even bolloxed the permissions etc.
If you're limited to using Windoze, try a copy of gnutar to tar up the contents of the original SD card & then swap cards & untar to the new one.

I've never found any hidden files on TTG SD card. I'm wondering if the version of Windows makes a difference. I use XP Home SP2. _________________ Richard

Same as you Oldboy XP SP2 No hidden files and no problem.

I use XP SP2 as well. May be it's the card (Aria 512Mb). |
