Leadtek 9553 BT GPS receiver review

There are quite a lot of Bluetooth GPS receivers on the market now, and most recently there has been an influx of high sensitivity SiRFstarIII devices. All of these are able to pull in a signal even in the most adverse conditions. What differentiates the Leadtek 9553 is both it's style and design.

The Leadtek 9553 is one of the latest (and greatest) generation of Bluetooth GPS receivers designed for PDAs, Smartphones and PCs.

Almost all of the receivers have similar performance which is understandable as they are using the same core technologies. The differences mainly occur in the power sources, the antenna and the styling.

The style of the Leadtek 9553 is what really makes it stand out from the crowd, but does it back up the style with performance and staying power?

Cheers for the review - informative as always.

100 quid for 2.5 hours use! (isn't ssIII a low power chipset?)

can't see this being much of a success - how many people would remember to turn it on and off if out walking - and I bet users have more trouble getting additional batteries if they lose one!

Leadtek GPS 9553 will it work in US ?
If so then Im assuming it will work with any device which can support Bluetooth, example my SonyEricssion P910a phone.
Cause everywhere I read it says the word BT.
As Im new to this GPS Bluetooth recievers just little confused.

Hi Danish,

This will work anywhere in the world.

It certainly does work with the SE P910. All you need it the maps and mapping application.

Will you recommend Leadtek GPS 9553 or is there anything better ?
Do u also recommend any particular GPS software for SE P910a for US ?

hi, i have recently purchased this small GPS receiver and i use it with my SE p910i

the receiver is really small and works fine, but does not have any app or utility for symbian UIQ (the phone's OS).

i'm using it with route66 for UIQ (the only good navigation software for this phone, at least since tomtom start selling it's product) and it works very well

uh, forgot one info : if you plan to use the p910i as a voice navigation unit, kepp in mind that the external speaker of the phone is too small, and in a noisy environment li ke a car, it's possible that you can't hear almost nothing (someone has done a little trick with route 66 : since all the voices are in mp3 format, it's possible to "boost" the volume with some audio editing software.

2nd info : for route66 you need at least a 256Mb (but more better a 512 or a 1Gb) memory stick duo pro, for storing software and maps

tomtom 5 is out for SE p910i, and it works with the receiver Smile

I have an XDA EXEC (I-mate JasJar) running WM5 and cannot seem to connect a Leadtek 9553x BT GPS receiver to it.

Does anyone have any suggestons?

BT is activated on my XDA and the device 'appears' to pair but I cannot maintain a BT connection through the supplied navigator software?

One thing to note is that I tried to pair the BT GPS receiver with a nokia 6230i via bluetooth but te phone could not 'pair' a connection as the passcode of 0000 was incorrect. Is it possible tochange the default passcode?

Hi, i can't conect my Nokia to Leadtek 9553X, when I switch on the blue light start flashing and green-red light too, but more slowly.Any solution for this?
