Hi, I currently use TTN5 (PPC v5.1) and post fairly regularly on the TTN forum. However, this is a question on behalf of a work colleague who has TomTom Go Classic.
He is non-techy as far as updgrades are concerned and he wants me to install the latest version of the Speed Camera Database and set his speed warnings accordingly. No problem with this.
He has also asked me about installing any other software/map updates that are freely available from the TomTom website. The software version currently installed is 4.2 but I notice that the latest version is 5.201
Is it worth upgrading to this version to use with the 'Classic Go'. I know that many consider the upgrade from TTN3 to TTN5 is a backwards step as regards functionality, so I don't want to make any changes if the new version is not an improvement. Can anyone please advise ??
Also, after any software upgrade, will it require reactivation, or is that only with new mapsets ?
Are there any map updates available for the Classic Go, or are these only available as a purchase ?
Thanks for your help

For the TTG the upgrade is worth it. It's not mind blowing, but it's an improvement.

It should not require any reactivation if, I believe I'm right in saying, he has the original SD card.

All map upgrades have to be paid for. If he wants to upgrade to the V5 map of GB, it would already contain the V5 software and map on a new SD card. I'm presuming that he has the original GB maps. There would be the bonus of having 7 digit Postcode Navigation with the new maps also. _________________ Richard

Regarding the software upgrade, I recall having to reactivate my maps after doing it. So make sure you have the required activation codes before proceeding.
I'd make a backup of the sd card before proceeding.
You may not have enough room on the original card for the 5.201 upgrade and cameras, unless you remove some unneeded voices.
If you have copied the original card to a bigger one , you will definitely need the activation code. Put product code printed on original CD sleeve and the device code, from the GO itself, into the activation code generator at www.ttcode.com . _________________ TTGO 700 (dead)
