|

Whilst £199 is bargain for the i3 - if you have an old Egg Blue or the new Egg money card you can get 10% discount by ordering online at Currys. Go to the Egg website and the shopping link, click on Currys and then shop as normal. When you go to checkout you can use a 5% discount code NHS247(freely available on various websites) which takes the price to 189.95. Use your Egg card to pay. As soon as the purchase appears on your Egg statement a further 10% discount will be added taking the unit to £170.14.
Just receive mine and can confirmthat this is the bottom line price. Also works for other items purchased from Currys.
Just wanted to say that this thread has been a great help in setting up my i3 - would have taken me ages withpout the links/tips etc |

The Zafira is very likely to have one of the heat reflecting windscreens. You will need an external aerial.
Have a look at your windscreen, if it has an odd bluish or bronze reflection in bright sunlight then it's one of the metalic coated heat reflecting ones. _________________ Gone fishing! |

Hi there, I had the same problem in a Peugeot 307 but got round it by placing it just to the top right of the rear view mirror, you should find this area is clear of the UV reflection stuff. This space is actually reserved by the manufacturer for the installation of automatic-toll 'tag' cards. I'm quite lucky as my car has quite a large area behind the rear view mirror unaffected by the UV coating and the position suites me well, but not every one will like it up there I guess!.
Try it in the Zafira, give it a good couple of minutes to try and get a lock-on first though. |

|
|
I noticed something strange tonight, whilst in the night colour mode during navigation a red light camera POI icon actually showed up on-route on screen! It was at a cross-roads junction in Northampton.
I thought the I3 did not show the POI icons on route? It's got me thinking that they only show on-route during night-mode as it was the first night-mode route I have done. Unless anyone else can confirm otherwise?
I'll test it again tommorrow to see if it shows any speed camera icons during night mode. |

It does not show bitmaps for POIs (like Tesco, B&Q etc), but it does show speed camera icons - if you are above the set speed. Redlight cameras are usually set to 0mph, so you see it whenever you are moving.
You should see them in daytime mode too. |

redlight cameras should show up when the corresponding speed is reached - they have an alert speed the same as the speed cameras...there would be no point in havin gthem if they didnt show up at all on route.... |

Ah right, I'm with ya! Thanks for clarifying that.
So in theory it would be possible to get all speed cam icons to show by setting limit to 0MPH but then I guess the text bit of info that comes up on top of screen would be wrong!
Oh Garmin, please let us have our icons on the maps! |

Does anyone on here know how to hard-wire the Garmin I3 to my car's cigarette lighter?
I have had the unit for a few weeks and it is invaluable, and thanks to the peeps on here, i have been able to load up all the POI's.
However i got impatient and tried to hard wire it in by choping off then end of the lead and attaching the two terminals to the correct terminals of the cigarette lighter, however when i went to switch it on i got nothing, now it wont work even on batteries? have i killed it? is it fixable?
And to top it all off i got lost on my way to work this morning!!
Any help from you gouys would be very appreciated!

Sounds like you have blown it up. your car puts out 12v but the i3 needs 5v.
As you have chopped off the end of your lead you cant take it back so i guess you need to buy a new one.. |

Darn it, thats the last time i attempt any in-car electronics!
If that is the case then does anyone know if there is a fuse inside i could check to see if it has blown? Has anyone had the lil sucker open? or can anyone point me in the direction of a schematic?

odd.. i have a ford puma with front heated windscreen and 'odd bluish hint' when viewed in bright sunlight... my i3 works fine though... could be to do with the fact it slopes wuite a bit? dunno, anyway, from what people have said the external arial's make big difference.

It sounds more likely that you have blown the fuse. The fuse will always go before the unit, for saftey reasons. On the end of the cigar lighter adapter, the end that goes in the lighter socket, there is the metal springy bit. Unscrew that end, and you will find the fuse inside. It's a glass fuse, so you will be able to see if it's blown or not. If it has, just go to a DIY store and pick up a new one. Job done!!! |
