Leaving a GPS mouse plugged in

Do people leave their GPS mice plugged in to the power connector when they have completed their journey and are leaving their car for a long time (overnight or during the working day)? Will leaving it plugged in shorten the TTFF? Will it put a significant load on the car battery?



Just ordered all the toys and am just itching for tommorow to arrive ao I can play!

Leaving the accessory plug connected won't harm it in anyway, most cars are wired so that power is lost to the socket when the ignition is off to prevent the possibility of fire.



The only time it will shorten the time is if your accessory sockets bypass the ignition system and go straight to the battery, in which case it will speed up the TTFF's to pretty much instant (0.1s).

My MD leaves his Garmin handheld GPS plugged into the cigar lighter all the time, and has never had a problem with the battery losing power. It's in a car that does leave the cigar lighter live when the ignition is switched off. Power drain is very small for these devices, but I suppose it depends on the quality of the battery in the car - something reasonably modern should be OK.



I had an Astra coupe on loan last year with built-in satellite navigation, and I noticed that the GPS signal was lost when the ignition was switched off. But, it only took a very short time (< 15 seconds, I recall) to regain a satellite fix.

Thanks for the replies guys. I think mine remains powered as I occasionaly use it to charge my mobile phone.... and seeing as I do a good 20 miles too and from work each day, I should think the battery would have plenty of time to charge up.



All the stuff is supposed to arrive by mid-day... How can I possibly concentrate on work?!?
