TTG Security Concerns

Anybody stuck the remote holder to the dashboard? This may be more of a giveaway than a mark on the windscreen.

Theft from motor vehicles was around long before TomTom! Thieves will break in if they see a packet of cigarettes or even a couple of quid in the ashtray. They'll even do so if they 'think' there may be something worth having.

We had a spate of car break-ins at work a year or so back. It was found that the swipe cards for the new entry barrier were being left on display and the thieves were "checking" to see if they were credit cards!!

I had my car broken into the other night but they didn't get my TTG. I have now decided to do away with the mount and I've cleaned the ring mark off the windscreen. I'm now mounting the TTG700 with black velcro pads - hooks on the TTG and loops on the dash/speaker grill. The TTG fits nicely in the rh corner of the dash. I have also wired the power cable in under the dash and left the cigarette lighter plugged in. The free end of the cable tucks into the corner of the dash out of view and the velco pads don't show on my black speaker grill. Only disadvantage is I can't use the bluetooth but at least I get to use the TTG without some low life smashing the glass. I never have left the TTG in the car BTW.

After just purchasing my first sat nav Tom Tom GO 700 i have been reading with interest the issue of security which was worrying me about the screen sucker mount etc.

Although im new to sat nav , i have had mobile phone hands free car kits in every car since i can remember, way before it was a legal requirement etc.

Anyway i have tried the Tom Tom blue toothe feature with my Nokia and i was blown away how clear and how well it worked even travelling at 70mph etc without the need for an external mic.

However this is how i have sorted my problem:

Firstly i have removed my Nokia phone cradle and using the Dash Mount Vent grille bracket ( they cost about £10 approx ) i have fitted a small piece of metal bracket (a bit like meccano ) to the Dash mount and then fitted the Tom Tom base part to the bracket.

Fitted it back on the dash and the results are excellent, in fact its even better than before as its nearer to the dash and steering wheel and therefore the phone and internal mike work even better.

Vibration / bounce is no worse and im happier as it has less of an obvious Sat Nav in car banner without having the large screen mount on display.

So my advice would pop along to your mobile phone installers and get a Dash mount bracket for your car (most models catered for ) and try it like i have done and you have hands free as well as great sat nav positon.
