That's great. Sorry, my mistake I managed to miss that earlier. Doh!
I think I may just have to buy one of these little things.
Does anyone find the lack of touch screen to be a particularly big disadvantage? Or is the scroll wheel fine? |

I have managed to get the speed camera database working ok, along with a few other POI files and set up my own work related sites. Let me have a email contact and I'll help if I can
Works great (when it doesn't hang and give spurious spoken distances that do not match the correct visual distances!!!!) |
Thanks for the reply - jim.bailey01@ntlworld.com |

Not having touch screen doesn't seem to be a disadvantage although I have never used a touch screen. Inputting seems pretty easy to me using the scroll wheel.
Had another hang today. One suggestion - Take out the batteries and just use the cigar lighter, at least when you have to re-boot you only need take out the power plug from the side of the i3 and not have to remove the batteries. |

Thanks for the battery tip. Didn't think of that...
Had another interesting response from Garmin UK support this time on a temp solution to the hanging.....

Hello,
Turn on WAAS. Unfortunately the i3 did ship with a few errors, however, turning on WAAS support seems to fix these problems.
Regards,
Garmin UK |
Time will tell.
Confirmation overnight from US that the new I3 sw release is imminent.

Another newbie here - just got my i3 today (from Maplin) - it's great! as I'm going to europe in a couple of weeks I want to take it with me - does anyone know what size transflash card would be needed to load up City Select Europe? The biggest I've found is 512mb from SanDisk, but I have no idea whether that's any use
Thanks v much |

Thanks Zogman - I haven't bought the City Select CD yet - I didn't want to buy it and then find it wouldn't fit on a card. However as it sounds as though I can just put the bits I want on, so that's great. |

I have installed the update - piece of cake.
I have tried a couple of journeys with multiple deviations from the route which usually results in lock ups - so far so good, no lock ups to date.
This GPS looks better and better - a bargain at £199! |

two questions re the update, when you download to the pc, how do you get the garmin to take the update, is there instructions given for this? Secondly I take it that the new software also includes the full 7 digit postcodes function, which mine did not in version 2.1 of the software. |

The update is very easy - you unzip the download, connect the i3 with the lead provided, double click on the 'loader' (in the unzipped file) , tick that you are using the USB connection, click OK - and it does it automatically in a couple of minutes.
The Postcode (7 digit) works fine. |

have done it! website suggest putting gps in a mode that does not exist! slightly confusing but yes it updated in a few minutes, reloaded the speed cameras. Have tested it works fine, tiny speed camera icon shows on the road not sure whether that was there before. Postcode search works.. As a bonus i tested it in my wifes Ford Ka which has the heated front screen and it worked a dream in there. What i also like on the garmin that the tomtom does not do is that when a speed alert is given if you are driving over that speed the garmin chimes and flashes warning you. Very pleased |
