|
|
We had the pleasure to meet with Harald Richter (of Herbert Richter Auto-Comfort) at this year's CeBIT . This was my last meeting at CeBIT, and by far the most valuable for me. Not just because I snatched a goodie from Harald ;-) but also because of the wealth of information and insights Harald provided us with. I would like to pass some of this information on to you and will focus this review on a very basic element of navigation - the windscreen mount. The review can be found here. _________________ Lutz

Nice review. I have also had some success with the RAM mounting system, see http://www.ram-mount.com/ . I used a suction cup (one WITHOUT a lever, which works really well, surprisingly), and a magnetic plate. I simply stuck a plate to the back of the PDA with adhesive tape. RAM-B-148 & RAP-300. They do a locking sucker now too: RAM-B-166

The RAM stuff comes from http://www.ram-mount-uk.com/ , but I guess you might not have meant that stuff ;-)

I got this mount as part of a bundle in Dec2004 and by the time it was nicked (Aug2005) it had so much of a gap between the levers and plastic cap that I had to make a filler by cutting a slot in a plastic washer. The washer wasn't nicked so someone's got problems fixing it to their windscreen... anyhow, it appears this deterioration has to be accepted. Does anyone know how to minimise the loss of suction/stretching within the cup somehwhere? Or has anyone successfully had one exchanged?
Just curious before I rush out and buy a replacement. Otherwise, I found it was a great mount. |

When I asked Harald Richter about that he told me to "watch this space" (pun intended) for a new mount.
Maybe a self-adjusting mechanism with a screw instead of a lever? We'll see soon, I guess. _________________ Lutz

Could you please ask Herr Richter where his mounts can be purchased in the UK? I've tried searching on the Web but can't find any vendors for it.

Thanks Darren. I looked there but I can't see anything that equates to the double sucker jobbie that was reviewed in these august pages.
I want a mount and cradle for my father whose car cannot take any kind of Brodit clip, but he doesn't want a sucker device that vibrates. As far as I can see the only one that doesn't (or isn't likely to) is the double sucker mount.
Odd marketing policy this German company has, IMHO. 8O

Not really. Herbert Richter are manufacturers not retailers after all. If you're after a specific mount then badger a retailer into stocking it. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Many of Herbert Ritcher prodcuts are available from PDA Hut. I bought my Universal Holder from them and am very happy with it.

I am thinking of getting one of these for my car as my cheepo goose neck one is ruubbish. Far to much vibration comes through the bendable arm.
Are these any good?
I am looking at the one that is for sale at PDA Hut and GPS4Less. As new PDA's come out are they likely to keep expanding the mounts (which can be brought seperatly)?
Another thing is, how snug does the PDA fit into the mount, ie, if you hit a bump, will the PDA come flying out of the top?
Thanks all! |

They're very good at bringing out new cradle solutions as new devices come to market and they are a very snug fit so unless you're driving a land rover off road they're unlikely to jump out. _________________ Darren Griffin |
