good value. Lots of information. Tells you of the possible sites of Mobile Laser guns, not all systems do, they rely on picking up the laser beam, (snooper roadangel ect)
Had one almost a year now, wuold buy again. _________________ "Let's be careful out there!"

I had an Original RA, which seemed to work very well, although the laser alert was a joke; never cheeped once. Nor did it once alert me to a mobile site anywhere in Scotland.
Once the existing updates had expired, I bought a DS unit having read all the glowing reports here and on the DS site.
I have to say that although the bigger screen is great, I'm not at all convinced that the DS unit is all good, and the RA unit all bad. The real big benefit is the free updates of course, and it gives Red Light cameras, and mobile camera sites. However, it's basic built-in laser alert has been no better then the RA's, other than 2 false alerts I've had so far!
Near to me is what I think is the biggest/longest SPECS system in the country, on the A77 between Kilmarnock and Girvan. Although installed last year, the DS's database for this system is still a disaster area, and a further interesting side to this is the fact that I regularly take a road which goes off the A77 at an angle, initially running close to and almost parallel to the A77. The RA quickly realised that I was no longer on the A77 and the SPECS alert stopped, but with the DS unit, I am several miles up this road, I think the A719, before the DS eventually shuts up.
I could go on, but I'll leave it there! _________________ David

All problems that I know of are simple because people did not update there system or set it up correctly.
All you need to do is adjust your course angle delta to narrow the angle detection down,This stops detection of cameras on roads running parallel.
Factory default is 30 but most people use 15 or 20 its the same thing as the motorway mode,That gets rid of alerts from cameras running by the side of the road.
The Drivesmart has a SPECS average speed calculator,it gives you a lot more information and your real time average speed,Rather than just a simple SPECS warning like all the other speed camera detectors.
If you read our forum it gives you a lot more information regarding the laser detection system.

With reference to your first paragraph, what you say might be true, but pretty unhelpful when, not for the first time, I've now spent several hours this weekend trying to update my DS unit, without success!!
I would respectfully suggest that the DS team's time might be better spent getting the basic unit working properly, before coming up with additional features, many of which I'm not particularly interested in.
After all, I simply want a camera detector unit, and for it to simply do what it says on the box.
I was all set to buy a 2nd DS unit to replace my old, and now un-updated, RA unit in my wife's car, but after this weekend's nonsense, I'm having 2nd thoughts!! _________________ David
