Hi, New Guy here.
I've just purchased a Meridian Gold and am looking for some lake maps in Texas that will work on my Gold GPS. The Lakes South card doesn't have the ones I'm looking for and the installed maps that come on the unit don't show the lakes or are a dark blob showing no real detail. I don't need lake depth contours and such, just a good fairly accurate outline on the lakes so when I plot a waypoint it doesn't show up on high dry ground. The lakes I'm mainly interested in are Amistad, Falcon, Coleto Creek, Texana and Choke Canyon. Do you think the Mapsend Topo would give me what I need? Thanks for any help you can give me. |

I have no experience of the USA mapsend topo as I live in England, I do however know that lots of you guys in the states have experienced accuracy problems with the USA versions of topo. the UK version is OS enabled, which consequently makes it quite accurate. from what I have read in reviews about the USA versions, it isn't really that good. Try before you buy if you can! |

Thanks for the reply. I'm new at this and don't have a clue what OS is. I wish I could give it a try first but don't know if that's possible. Anyone have the U.S. topo maps loaded that could check the listed lakes and see if they're even shown? Thanks again for the help and advice. |

OS is short for Ordanance survey, who are the government/crown cartography body for the UK. Their data is extremely accurate, and magellan have used some of that data in their development of the UK Topo software.
try the magellan website, I'm sure I saw some American lakes software there? see what it covers, or ask them! |

I have the exact same question regarding the same maps. I live in Texas too, and the maps that come with the MapSend Lakes South are not that great. They don't even have Louisiana in them at all. How crazy is that.
Anyway, for someone that fishes , these maps don't cut it in my opinion.
Anyone have any other ideas?
