This program looks like it could be really useful. Thanks for all the hard work that must have gone into creating it.
You mentioned in an earlier reply that you were removing duplicate entries. However, in the files I'm getting there are still a lot of duplicates. I've extracted one of your ov2 files to an asc file and sorted and viewed it in Excel, and would estimate that it could be reduced by between a third and a half if all the duplicates were removed. It would need some care as in most cases the lat, long and description are identical, but in a few the lat and long match but the descriptions are different.
Also, it's a shame that the descriptions need to be truncated to fit the TomTom display limitations. Have you considered doing some editing of the descriptions in order to squeeze in more of the useful text, e.g. by abbreviating county names such as Cambridgeshire to Cambs, or reducing Road to Rd, Greater to Gtr, etc, then you would get more space for the useful info that's currently being discarded?
Other than that, I think it looks great. Thanks again for creating it - I'm looking forward to trying it out over the coming days. _________________ Barry Davies

I'm having problems with the new update. Upon downloading and extracting, I'm given 5 files which I assume are CAB files. There is nothing else in the package.
The initial version had the .exe file and pdf file which I have already deleted from my system. Couldn't get the first release to work - XLM error and though I could get the POI category, it never contained any POI files. Every time I switched the computer on, the programme would come up with the message that it had updated even though I hadn't connected to the internet!
How can I get the new version to install? |

Any suggestions on how I can get rid of the logon window I seem to have aquired via .NET Framework?

Cujo,
Five files in the package? The new version is in the same place you got the original from, it's just been updated now goto page 1 of 5 of this thread.
Should just be one exe file named OfflineTrafficNewsSetup.msi
Have you installed .NET Framework 1.1 yet, as this is needed before you can run Offline...
You'll also need to disable proxy settings as detailed in this thread by oka97

There are lots of duplications in the POI file created - any way to filter these out?

Richard
This is a brill program. Both your original version and newest work straight out of the box on my iPaq 2210.
Only time it fails to sync directly with SD card is if I've accidently left TT5 running.
How about a bbc weather feed similar to the german WetterSync (see http://www.pocketnavigation.de/article/view_94_447/5.6.59.html)? |

Almost there with it now! Only problem left is that the binary file contains 0 bytes so as a result - no POI found.
It may be a proxy thing but I currently have:
Firefox - set as "Direct connection to the internet" and
ie6 - with no settings in the LAN or proxy settings.
Anything else I can check? |

Cujo,
Did you do a re-boot after the changes, as this should now work?
It's only IE6 settings that need changing, Firefox is ok as is.
The 0kb means it's not connecting, your almost there!

Excellent software! I haven't yet tried it on my 2210 but have converted the files to asc and viewed them in Autoroute - very useful as an overview before a long journey. Would it be possible to have an option to have the download untruncated so it could be viewed in full in Autoroute? _________________ Tony

Would appreciate some advice. Have successfully installed as previously mentioned but cannot see as POI in TT5. Can view on SD card and saved correctly. Can also view with CheckPOInt. What am I doing wrong? |

Mr. Sutcliffe you need to speak to PocketGPSWorld and ask them to host a file you can update via FTP or something, every 30 mins or less.
This would be better than an application running on every PC, and it would add value to the PocketGPSWorld site up there with the speed camera db, surely that would be in their interest. | Richard / Admin - I'm involved with http://www.infomatics.info which is basically the same and for a number of reasons the project has stalled.
Any way... having spoken to one of the developers we would consider providing the server side code for this site and may be more if we can come to some agreement - like... it will never be a charge for service etc... ( server side at least ).
Also we may or may not need some one to help make this compatible or at least an SDK of some kind for some off its PC brothers.... ( mp3car.com will explain )
Please let me know if your intrested... I would love to see this working some where and share with you guys but first and formost our project was set up to support PC users and I want to make sure they are included.

I host various websites, and am willing to run Richard's program and have the ov2 output file available on one of my websites.
Would people find this useful? Would this be OK with Richard?[/quote] _________________ TomTom Go 710. |
