Each time I cross to France via Euro Tunnel the GPS signal takes 10 minutes or longer to find my new location. I am normally miles down the A16 before I get any navigational guidance.
Is it best to turn the GPS off during the crossing or say remain stationary on entering France until it finds a signal. Alternatively is there a way of speeding it up by telling the GPS about my new location. _________________ TTGO 700 v6.15 External Aerial |

Remain stationary with the unit powered up and it should sync fairly quickly - driving off will only further confuse the device - i would expect two min max for it to fire up so long as the unit has a clean line of sight - cheers from mike in the pub |

Park up with a clear view of the sk,y then turn on your GPS, and then start TomTom. That should be the quickest way to acquire a fix. _________________ Kam |

Hi gg2000
I know that this note won’t help you, in fact it may cheese you off, However, some GPS devices get a first fix quicker than others. I have a BT338 and it is wonderful at achieving this task. As soon as I came out of the tunnel on the French side I turned the BT338 on and it got a fix way before the train stopped. When I returned to Dover (by ferry this time) it even got a fix before I drove off of the boat. As I said earlier, it depends on your GPS device. |

Considering how long you have from emerging from the tunnel until you actually leave the train, could you not remove it from it's cradle and hold it against the window of the train ?
Then when you eventually start rolling down the train it may hold it's signal.
Different on a ferry because there is no line of sight until you exit the boat. I'd then park up until a signal was aquired. |

Hi gg2000
I likewise have had no problem, I have the TomTom wired GPS and had a fix like Trevor1234 within seconds of leaving the train without needing to park up. How's your signal and aquisition tiime the rest of the time?

Travelling to ExpensiveDisney last month and crossing by ferry, I turned my unit on within a few mins of docking at Calais. It took at least 10 mins to get a fix, obviously because I was moving. Coming back I may have either left it on or turned it on as a priority when getting into the car, I can't remember, however it was up and running before I hit the down ramp. _________________ o2 XDA Stellar
